This is not an "appreciation" thread - if the song's $hit, please feel free to say so.

It premieres on Monday morning, during Chris Moyles (Radio 1).

I have incredibly low expectations, so I might be pleasantly surprised. To me, she doesn't really come across as being able to sing or perform that well, I always thought she was above-average but that's about it. But then maybe she's got incredible vocal chops hidden away, ready to come out?

But then again, if it's like most of Girls Aloud's music, the overclocked production values will make up for her lack of vocal range. (BTW that's not a dig at Girls Aloud. I love their songs, just not really for their vocal abilities, just the music and rhythm.)

I can't help feeling though we're looking at Part 2 of Paris Hilton's "music" "career".

sounds about right. Cheryl has never shown any real vocal strength, but her seemingly 'A-List' celebrity status will no doubt mean that she will get the benefit of working with some of the top producers, who will probably make great music for Cheryl to merely be the face of.

ok, we could talk all day about artists who have had the benefit of top class production, but Cheryl hasn't got a great voice, or personality to make up for it - compare her to someone like Lady Gaga this year, who (love or hate her) has captured the world's attention with the extraordinary personality she adds to her brilliantly-produced music - not forgetting that she is also heavily involved in the production itself - even if she does go over the top.

i love Girls Aloud, and although much of their success is owed to Xenomania, i think they are great as a group. but i can't help but think that this solo move by Cheryl is purely a media-fuelled ploy, and yet another example of the celebrity-dominated culture of today. oh and she will probably get a live performance on x factor just before the song is released to sponge sales off. i know i'm being a bit cynical, and maybe i will be proved wrong, but i'm just going on what we already know.

You know I have a feeling a lot of people will be surprised, I personally thought she was TERRIBLE on PopStars, and was only really a fan of Girls Aloud when they were finally formed at the end of the series, I didn't really have a favourite.
Anyway, when I went to see GA in May it was VERY apparent her vocals had improved, even since the last tour, which makes me think she's been having vocal training. Her performance on Broken Strings was quite 'emotional', if that's the right word to use. She did put a lot of feeling into it.
She's an excellent performer, particularly with her dancing, and I certainly wouldn't go on the X Factor performance from last year.

I'm hoping it's very different to Girls Aloud's sound, and maybe a bit more R&B than the rumoured Electro-Pop sound. Heartbreaker suited her very well, even if it was a minimal part. Either way I'm reserving judgement till the song premieres

Can't wait

Leona on Sun and now Cheryl on Mon. I can't see any promo for this until after the x factor. So this could just be released early to cause a bit of buzz.

Some posters on PJ think that it's a version of this song:

Actually, I quite like it!

I couldn't disagree more, she's got a fantastic voice. Just 'cos she doesn't shriek all over a track like a Leona, Christina or Mariah, it doesn't mean she can't sing...

I hope not! Not unless its been speeded up anyway.

I can't see that suited her at all.

Sorry, what do you mean?

I can't see that suited her at all.
Oh, I thought it sounded very Cheryl-ish!
What sort of thing were you expecting?

(btw, there's no confirmation whatsoever that it's this track, just informed speculation on some PJers part)

I think it sounds too slow.

I was expected a GaGa sound. I'm hoping that isn't the song as I know I won't like it.

Well, AFAICT, it's around the 130bpm mark - "Just Dance" was 127bpm, and "Poker Face" was 119bpm - so it's actually faster than those two songs.

That song really reminds me of Lil Star by Kelis. Its pretty good actually.

Do you know if theres any basis for people thinking its Cheryl's song, apart from the title?

Cheryl Cole on the radio? What's the point, her entire career is based on her looks.

I think it could be a great song if they remixed it so that it was more catchy. I don't think there's enough bass in it for it to be great in all the right places.

I like that song posted above, shame her debut is a cover, but it has potential.

Not really gonna trust that info you have there
Gonna wait to see when Cheryl announces it herself. I don't think she even has an album recorded to even finalise a tracklisting.

This shows her as releasing her album on the same day as Alexendra Burke... surely Simon would beat Cheryl if she did this

I'm not really a fan of Cheryl's voice, however I might like the song she releases. I will wait until I've heard the song before judging it.

I am more excited about hearing Nadine and Sarah's material to be honest

I'm really looking forward to this. I admit Cheryl isn't the greatest singer in the world. But then again, who is? And there's no denying that Girls Aloud have done some really good hits, so why can't Cheryl do it alone? The plus side is that Cheryl is undoubtedly the most famous GA member now as well as the most talked about celebrity. i.e. x factor, fasion, etc.

So it should all work in her favour. I actually like her voice, it's different and more of a husky tone. It should be good.

This is what I was trying to say.

But I don't think its that song anyway. Apparently Cheryl has written most of this herself.
