I have successfully installed my new Foxsat HDR Freesat+ PVR. At present I have an SD Panasonic so I have to use the SCART output set to RGB - pretty nice picture actually.

But when I tune to BBC HD the picture begins as RGB and then a few seconds in it switches to composite video - is this to be expected?

Yep it's the BBC's interpretation of DRM, ITV HD's the same. You can get over this by viewing BBC HD in non-freesat mode (but not ITV HD sadly)

Thanks for that Graham.. will try out the non-freesat mode. Otherwise I'm very pleased with the Foxsat. Refreshing to see an EPG that's much nicer than Sky's design.. and I feel strangely liberated now that I have handed in my notice and have jumped ship. Viva Freesat.

It's unfortunately the way things are with HD, it's designed to make sure you use the HDMI port, which is the only secure route for HD video. Most HD televisions and displays sold today will have a compliant HDMI port, first generation HD displays and computer monitors may only support HD via DVI or RGB, you might have problems actually getting to view HD on these displays without some technical intervention.

I *think* the HD Ready logo signifies HDMI compliance? I could be wrong.

That's one of the things it requires, an HDCP compatible HDMI socket able to accept (at least) 720P and 1080i.
