Orange is the stronger brand, but I think the merged company will want a fresh start and rebrand to gain new customers who may have not gone for either an Orange or T-Mobile contract.

I expect T-Mobile letters/bills etc to state at the bottom "An Orange Company". In much the same way as O2 state they are a Telefonica company at the bottom of thier literature.
Then in 18 months, the T-Mobile brand will vanish. The Orange brand will NEVER leave the UK. |

I think you might find it is a fruit as well.
Personally I would rather the name Orange be used instead of Tmobile - which is just awkward in it's sound. I just hope this can sway Apple to join in with Orange in the UK now so it's customers can get iPhones. However, the naming a the new company will, for now, remain a mystery. |

Remember this prediction. It will be Orange and the T-Mobile name will disappear!

You don't throw away all of that brand equity. A fresh start doesn't make much sense when you have 30m+ customers. |

I guess you haven't heard the saying about apples and oranges? Along the lines of chalk and cheese?
![]() I would have thought a three-way merger of Virgin Mobile, T-Mobile and 3 would be best. . |

How about bringing back One2One? |

Orange may be a stronger brand in the UK but T-Mobile is solid around the world. It all depends if the marketing wonks want to tie into a global brand or have something specific to the UK market.

And I'm telling you they will.
So instead of all the 'yes they will, no they won't' crap, lets wait and see what occurs? |

You don't know anything for sure, you're just guessing as to what will happen based upon (possibly) other mergers/deals.

Absolutely but when someone as equally unqualified as myself tells me I'm wrong, I'm not just going to sit back.
No. Didn't think so. Think I am a little more qualified than you. |

No. Didn't think so. Think I am a little more qualified than you. What do you think is going to happen and why? You say that orange will NEVER leave. Why not? T-Mobile and Orange have business all over the world so why wouldn't a new name for the combined business in the UK be a goer? I personally think it's be a great business move to merge and create a new, fresh name for the company. |

Incidentally the point I was making is he's just a frontline phone monkey like myself. Neither of us have any real idea how this will pan out, that sort of decision is make by people way over our heads. The difference being is I'm not going to embarrass myself by telling people in the same boat as myself that "I'm right, you're wrong" just out of nowhere. I made that comment above just to show how pointless his stance was.
I would quite happily go down Ladbrokes right now and stick £5,000 on Orange retaining the name. |

You're not anywhere near the level of person who makes the decisions. You're welcome to your opinion (the world would be crap if that were not the case) but you're no closer to having an educated guess than me or any other Tmobile or Orange frontline staff.

I'd also guess that when the merger is complete, some new 'deals' will be presented in the hope that people will move over to them. |
