Sir Tel says he is retiring before he is "led away". Why doesn't Bruce think on these lines?

Given the rate of Bruce's errors last year, and how dreadfully embarrassing he now is to watch, I'm always surprised that his wife and family don't have a gentle word with him.

I don't doubt that he has a happy marriage, and I would do everything I could to stop my husband from humiliating himself the way that Bruce does with his complete ineptitude. Why doesn't his wife point out that it's time for him to leave? At least she could do it with love, and he might be able to leave with dignity.

If only .... I know lots of people seem to still love him but I just don't get that. To me he's a total embarrassment and the sooner he goes the better

I've never liked Bruce but was surprised last when my Gran's and Great-Aunt's started saying Bruce is past it he needs to go.

Also Bruce at his peak was never as entertaining as Wogan.

Terry is on the radio 5 days a week leaving home at 4.00 am and will now be doing a weekend show.

That's not quite the same as Brucie doing a one day a week (or even two this year!).

I enjoy watching Bruce and certainly don't think he humiliates himself every week.

PS Is this the opposite of an Appreciation thread?

I wondered as soon as Sir Tel announced his retirement if he might be lined up to do Strictly next year. I like Bruce but it would be great to have Terry as I'm going to miss him in the mornings.
Waves to Gill P- Strictly fan as well then! Now wouldn't you love GDL in this!

Oh please, yes. He's always been my ideal choice for Strictly.

I would think Terry would be a good replacement for Bruce, I think he is a fair bit younger that Bruce and he did do the original come dancing.

I do like Bruce and I dont think he is an embarrassment but perhaps this should be his last series.

I thought you meant Terry on SCD as a contestant! He is certainly a fan of the show, so already knows how things work!

He is 71 though so maybe the producers would want an even younger presenter? He is also a bit Marmite - just like Bruce.

That would be an interesting choice as replacement for Bruce. If Terry's approach was similar to the slightly sarcastic and mocking one he took on Eurovision then it would definitely change the dynamic somewhat

I was listening to an interview from Norwich and he said he would definitely love to do it!

Sorry folks, off topic!

No, not Terry! I'd like Michael Aspel, if we have to replace Bruce, and if it has to be with an older male.

Strictly wouldn't be the same without Bruce.

But if I had to pick a replacement, I guess Terry would be tolerable.

Wogan is amiable enough, but I can just imagine some of those Eurovision-type comments he might make

I know, imagine having a presenter who could read an autocue without fluffing and had jokes written after the invention of the ball point pen.

And who doesn't inflict his dancing and "singing" on us!

Hi Bud!

It's a Terry Appreciation thread!

I was so sad when Terry made his announcement - I would love to see him on SCD - I think he would be great!

That's all part of Brucie's charm

Who's GDL?

I knew someone would ask this. GDL is Gareth David-Lloyd who played Ianto in Torchwood and was killed in the last episode of Series 3 much to everyone's dismay. In an interview I heard on Radio Norwich he said he would like to do Strictly.

He was the best character in Torchwood in my opinion.

Put Norton in. He was great on Eurovision this year.
He must be on contract. Perhaps he could do the weather as well. And golf. F1. The Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

Gill, why did you bring up the subject of Ianto again

I was just getting over that particular trauma

No it isn't.

I'm going to start watching Strictly on V+ after it start so I can FF Bruce and Tess, and possibly the judges too.

Well it is for me.

I guess we all warm to different people.

I like Bruce

The sooner he goes the better and he can take Tess Daly with him.
