Then there is the off season where probably the only action is on the app threads. I don't think this has happened anywhere else.

Actually as someone who writes mainly on an appreciation thread and the one mentioned here, I am personally glad we have been moved to a sub forum Yes it is a 4 year old thread. So what? But it seems to upset some people more than you would think is necessary, so now it is out of the way, some of the regular posters, myself included now don't have to feel intimidated by posting on it when SCD is on.

We do actually stay on topic (define on topic. On topic to the thread title or to the forum mainly??Either way we are.) and especially at this time of year discuss everything to do with Strictly. We choose mainly to discuss it there because at least there it can be discussed without the nuisance of wind up merchants, trolls, people with serious anger management issues, super fans who can't accept constructive criticism of their favourites* and we can actually agree to disagree on most things and also make a big skit of things that need to be skitted about. Those who actually click on the thread to see what it is about would know that instead of people who just go on the assumption that we must be a bunch of saddos

*We don't actually police the forums in case our beloved has been slighted in any way or feel it necessary to send "you are evil and deserve to die a horrible death" posts or pms. So for those who can't understand why we choose to continue writing on a middle aged news reader from 7463 series ago, we aren't asking you to "get it". We "get it" so there

I'd like the sub forum to remain.

Edit :sets firefox bookmark to Strictly come dancing- appreciation

Ive just scan read the last page of the WTR thread and there is only one "miniscule" mention of Strictly in the whole page. I don't know how this can be relevant to the main Strictly programme forum.

(sorry Warm and Tranquillers but its just my opinion!) ”

W&T has been around for longer than I care to remember. When there is something to say about Strictly which is relevent then it will be discussed. After all it hasnt started yet and we are awaiting the start before we have opinions.
We tend to avoid appreciation on W&T as that is not its purpose.
Scd Rebels likewise and the Die Hards, it wouldnt really matter if they were all moved together but I can see why the mods decided to move the appreciation threads and there are a lot of them to move. Cant see it why the fuss the appreciation threads are now all together just a click away not spread all over several pages.

I think having the discussion and appreciation threads together makes the forum a much more vibrant, lively place.

I like coming on and seeing how busy we have all been (), and how different the first page looks each time. Now it will look like ...."nothing new to see here today then"

It looks to me like there are some posters who think its perfectly fine for the threads they DONT use to be put into the sub forum which is only a click away.....but dont touch the ones they DO use as they deserve to stay on the main page.

I've requested for the Discussion threads to be put in the Sub forum, and the Appreciation threads brought back to the main page!

But why?

Discussion threads are what forums are supposed to be about. Appreciation threads are allowed as a special exception in that you are not essentially allowed to 'discuss' in there as they are only for those who have a positive view on a couple.

I don't have anything against appreciation threads (hell, I even started one of the ongoing ones) but I think this is a good idea to make the forum more manageable.

People may think there's not much on the main page now, but wait until the series starts...

But Dilly, your post below says just that.

These threads and a lot of the people on them disappear after a few weeks...whereas our appreciation threads are used all year!

I dont disagree with the ones for new celeb couples being put in a sub forum after the show has finished, or for past celebs even...but the threads used for Flavia, Matt C and Darren and Lilia etc..should all have stayed where they were. ”

You want 2009 App threads put in a sub forum after the series, but think that 2008 App thread for Matt should be in main forum.

We want our fave threads in one big forum.

You seem to be requesting a Dilly's fave thread main forum!

Which is why i think the Discussion threads should be in the sub forum. Most of these random threads will be made up from random people who dont usually use this forum, and the threads they start will most probably end up with one or two replies on them before dropping back the pages. At least the Appreciation threads are used mostly by people who use the forum throughout the year, and its those people that should be catered for here...not the random passers through that are only here to cause a bit of trouble and are too lazy to look at page 2 to see if the thread they want is there!

I dont disagree that things could be more manageable if split into two groups, but I personally think it should have been split the other way so that the Appreciation threads are the mainstay of the forum. After the series has finished, all the recent Appreciaton threads not in use would slip off anyway, and we would then be left with our ususl threads for our usual posters, which is how it should be.

No I'm not...I never asked for Matts thread to stay here

ETA : Just to clarify, I would prefer things to have stayed as they were, but if the forum is to be split then i think the Appreciatin threads should be the main page. However if thats not to be, then the appreciation threads for past celebs/celeb couples should be moved, and the appreciaitoin threads for the present couples and present pro dancers should stay! I never asked for all the threads I use to stay.

I've asked for Flavia, Darren and Lilia and Matt C. etc..not Matt DiA

Anyway, this thread is meant to be asking for the App threads to be brought back into main Forum, not for other Threads to be exiled instead...

Spot on SR!

The assumption that appreciation threads do not discuss anything is simply wrong.

I can't understand why the format had to change and I don't like the new system at all.

As someone who is a regular poster on this forum all year even when Strictly isnt on the TV I feel like I have been slapped in the face. Its not a matter of how easy they are to find .....its the principle of the thing......

Sorry but that sounds like terrible elitism and is exactly what the mods say in their post they were working to avoid.

I don't use the forum much throughout the year, but I would not consider myself a random passer by considering how many series I've been posting for. There are many more like me.

DS is a discussion forum and so to suggest that actual discussion about the show should not be on the main page of the forum is frankly ridiculous. The appreciation threads are a sub issue - they are treated differently in that they are the exception to the rule. If anything needed to be separated it's right that it was them.

I certainly wasnt insinuating that you are anyone in particular was a random passer by, but referring to the people who come here and without bothering to look and see if a thread is already made....go ahead and create another one for a subject already covered to death in umpteen other threads covering the same topic!

I don't care whether the discussion threads or the appreciation threads are on the main board, I am just delighted that they have been separated.

I felt that the discussion threads were infected by the appreciation threads and the sentiment therein.

Reasonable criticism was being attacked as "unfair", "nasty" or "mean".

Appreciation threads are part of the Strictly family and as such, we should all be together

Just like the ad says( I would post it if I could remember the one. )

I have

I posted quite a lot last year. I even ventured into the Lisa Snowdon appreciation thread to pledge my support towards the end of the series

I agree SR, the Appreciation threads are where the majority of discussion on the SCD forum takes place. The majority of threads that are started on here disappear after a few days/weeks and are probably never posted on again , the Appreciation threads always seem to be the most popular.

I just can't understand why the Mods felt the need to move them .

I am so glad you started this thread as it is good to have all the negative comments about the separation in one place, rather than on all the different Appreciation threads.

This is exactly how I feel. The problem for me is that the very term sub-forum implies we are less important than 'discussion' threads yet we, with a couple of other threads, keep the forum alive all year. Very confusing!

I'd like to see how it works out this series, because there's no denying that there has been conflict in the past between people who want to appreciate the series, pros, contestants etc. and people who want to make personal remarks, criticisms etc. and those in between! So maybe it's just as well to have a sub-forum. I personally will be more than happy to inhabit the happy place- pink and fluffy and all that

One thing I do agree on is that the Warm &Tranquil Room and SCD Rebels should be moved too. The point of moving the appreciation threads was "so that the topical discussions in the main forum are not hidden away". Neither of these threads are topical; keeping them on the front page is not in the spirit of this move.

Actually, IMO they should be moved to chatter. They're lovely threads, but even when the series is showing they only touch on discussing Strictly. So they shouldn't be here... and as has been said for the appreciation threads, it shouldn't make any difference where they are, it just takes a few clicks of a button to get there. Sorry
