BT and harsh tactics to keep you as a customer

I spent 1 hour and a quarter trying to assertain how much I would owe BT if I left their phone package and Broadband package contract one month early. I established I did not have a BB contract. This took up most of the phone call. I did manage to get a MAC code in the early stages of the call.

(I am moving over to Sky TV/Phone/land line/BBand in stages)

Every BT department came up with a different figure. Every department tried to sell me another BT package.

One young man was particularly vigorous stating that my new provider, Sky, would grab my line off me before time and I would be landed with a BT invoice. He then proceeded to try and wager bets with me.

I remained unimpressed with the package BT were now offering me..particularly the TV PRV which is very behind the Sky+ or Humax PVR's..

He then started being very pushy about getting my mobile number. I remained steadfast. He then asked for one of my friends mobile number...if not a land line number.

I was beginning to feel very uncomfortable as I reasoned the
logics of this. He then played his last card....

He said it was possible I could be without a phone altogether for quite some time if I switched over land line/broadband. He said I may need a mobile so BT could contact me to let me know I did not have a line.

I said that surely if they knew I had lost my line before time and they were going to let me know by phoning my mobile they would know about it anyway and would be doing all they could to fix
the situation. He said it does happen sometimes and I would be
be without a line and therefore without any communication to outside world. I said that I hoped I would not be charged a re-connection fee because it would not be my request to cut the line off. He then said..."Oh no...it would be an accident"

At first I thought they were trying to extract phone numbers to bombard me with text advertising and offers. Then I began to think that it was a bit of threat. I am now quite freaked by the whole thing
and the tactics have had a 'shaken effect' on my plans.

Anyone else had these problems....Anyone else lost their line?
Anyone been then charged a reconnection fee?

Any advice gratefully grabbed.

I use Sky Talk and Sky Broadband and BT said nothing of the sort, and I didn't lose service for more than a couple of days on my broadband as it switched.

Complain about the issue to OFCOM if you're that empassioned, or try from the other end and let Sky handle BT when it comes to the phone line.

I went from BT to World Online to BT to Toucan to BT to Talk Talk to BT with no hassles and no reconnection charges.

What the guy was telling you is a load of bovine faeces as when they switch you over it may take 21 days or so but you still keep a phone line as you have paid for it.
