Love Yvonne, one of soap's best bitches. She's really underrated IMO.

She is, but she's good when she's not being a bitch too. She's either just used as a back-ground character or a super-bitch, and she could be so much more. If they just tweaked her slightly, they could have a Janine from Eastenders on their hands: a great actress that plays super-bitch and is still loved by the viewers.

either Charlie or Bela being killed off? Apparently someone dies this year at Christmas, and it's someone who has been with the show for most of the show's run. So it leaves a very small handful of characters, like Charlie, Bela, Paul and Yvonne.

Anyone know anything else?”

So it's
Spoiler
Rita
who is being killed off. A bit disappointing really
Spoiler
although I've read that Darren is returning for the funeral and presumably Suzanne will come back as well. No mention of Louise though

I hope Cass changes his mind about leaving, he's got a great relationship with the Brennans and would be a great loss. Loving Jo being back as well.

Judith/Luke/Tommy  Thankfully she's already told Tommy and this can be put to bed.

I guess that was the death. Poor Bela. Poor Cass. But I can't wait to see Yvonne kicking off at everyone at the funeral. For some reason she gets banned from it?

Also, Suzanne's back on Tuesday? The snippets in the sunday TV guide said Suzanne makes a shock announcement on Tuesday that floors Yvonne and leaves her frozen out from the funeral.

Spoiler
She told the doctors not to try and resuscitate Rita after her stroke.

Thanks! Makes sense, but to be honest she's not in the wrong.

Rita's dead? No.. I was hoping we'd see more of her ridiculous bed side scenes that we haven't had in years

I am actually gutted though.. I alwasy thought Rita's actress would make a return someday. She was ill in rl wasn't she?

Aw Most of my childhood memories of Fair City were scenes of Rita making sandwiches

Is that the real reason she left, because she was ill in real life? I always thought it was bizarre how she just vanished from the show with no explanation.

Edit : just read a post from someone claiming to be her granddaughter on another forum that she had been very ill but has seemingly recovered.

That's not what I heard. The guy who played Finn, Sam Adams, is a mate of mine and he said the guy who played Bela told him that Jean Costello (the woman who played Rita) was told in advance they were putting Rita and Bela back together, and she absolutely categorically refused point-blank to film that, because she felt that Rita would never, ever take Bela back after everything he'd done to her. So she was just quietly removed from the show and that was that. Similar to how the guy who played Frank was fired.

That I can well believe. My own impression when she vanished from the screens was that she must have had a huge falling out with the producers, as one minute she was there and the next she was gone (or her character was no longer on screen anyway).

If she had fallen into ill health, they surely would have given her a much more dignified exit than the one she got.

Considering she was in it from the get-go, and Mags, who didn't fall out with the producers, was in it after she had her stroke in RL and got an extremely dignified ending with Charlie. I believe the producers of Fair City are extremely difficult, and if they take against you they really take against you, and you don't stand a chance. Look at Frank: one minute he was in it, and the next episode it was "Did you hear? Frank killed himself last night." No explanation, no lead up, just BOOM dead and gone.

Can you resuscitate someone that has a stroke. I know you can try with a heart attack, but with a stroke isnt it mostly a case of get the person to Hospital as quickly as possible and then hope for the best.

I saw in the guide that is given away with the Sun on Saturday that Cass is going to fill the duties of the priest at Rita's graveside. RTE & Fair City have a habit of this. Wasnt it Charlie that married Yvonne to her lesbian partner in Vino's I was always of the opinion a person could only get married by a registered minister/priest or official and in a registered building. Fair City at times can be very stupid. When they do something like this in their story lines it becomes very stupid.

It's on the RTé player, but I'm not sure if you can watch outside Ireland. I know with the BBC iPlayer you couldn't watch in Ireland. We had to wait for the international version of the iPlayer to go online.

Try it and see if it works, though. Good luck!

Trouble Maker, a lot of their stories descend into daftness, to be fair! But yeah, Cass being the priest is a bit fkn stupid. Even looking at the photos for it, there's no minister or priest there at all, just Cass and the family. I doubt very much a priest would let a bunch of Joes have his church for a funeral, and let some bloke that's not ordained do the service. Catholic churches aren't big on stuff like that and it's a bit dumb of FC to think that anyone living in a Catholic country wouldn't know that.

And surprisingly you can resuscitate a stroke victim (did not know that!). I'd say it was easier because she was in a home that probably had medical facilities to deal with strokes/heart attacks until the EMTs can get there.

Jean Costello joined her soap family one last time officially in McCoys and spoke about how she will miss her "pals" from her day on the show
.
She said: 'I feel proud to have been part of the show for 23 years. I might be back, but not as Rita, I could be her sister!'
Jean herself has battled with several health conditions of late, suffering two strokes and fighting cancer. While she may be leaving Fair City, she said she would like to do some more acting.

'I'd love to do theatre again. I'll miss the money from Fair City, though. It was 23 years on a good week's wages. I feel proud of the show, but I was getting sick at the time and I had to get out. I might be back.'

Rita's exit was one of the weirdest ever on any soap. She was on the show for many years as one of the central characters and then she just vanished from the storylines with no explanation. I think it took them ages to explain her absence.

I guessed at the time that a big falling out with the producers must have been the reason, as there was no mention in the media of the actress falling suddenly ill.

I hope it was an illness, like Viv's High Heels posted, because it would be awful to think that anyone could be treated like that by their employers, but to be honest I'd be more inclined to believe it was a row.

So are we swapping Suzanne for Louise? Hopefully it'll give Yvonne something better to do. And that boyfriend of Louise's is a dick.

Louise isn't much better in fairness. It seemed she was more interested in the fig roll she was eating than the fact her mother was dead and planning on going out for the night as well. Great slip her by her though when talking about Ruth. "She looks just like you Yvonne"

That's kind of why I want her to work in Vino's... It would be so funny to see Yvonne having to spend time with someone like Louise.

Are we taking bets yet? My money is on Louise's boyfriend making a play for Yvonne.

I would think Rita originally left due to illness, they did keep the door open for her for long enough i mean apart from one bed side scene she hasnt been in the show for years but they kept the charactor going. I wonder what finally made them kill her off, did Jean say she decided not to return or did the powers that be at fair city just decide to completly write her out.

In regars tonight episode, i wonder is Suzanne definitely leaving, its good they have brought in some new Doyles, i know Jimmy isnt returning but i wonder is Darren only making a brief return or staying for good. Yvonne is the best of the bunch though she is the type of character you can go any way with, and even though she can be a right bitch there is always scenes when you just feel so sorry for her like tonight when Bela was with Louise and Suzanne and kept saying my girls, you can tell Yvonne has always felt left out and probably used to a certain point.

I think it's guaranteed to happen. As is Paul and Louise. Well if he can be with Helen and Yvonne...

wow, Darren has grown up to be quite the stud
Pathetic writing though to try and explain Jimmy's absence from the funeral It is completely out of Jimmy's drippy character to ever get so wasted at an airport that he would be refused to board the flight
Tonight's episode was great though! I loved Yvonne and Bela's fight. I didn't expect them to go so hard on each other but I thought it brought out a lot of sympathy for Yvonne which was needed. She's always felt like the outcast of the Doyle family and it was good to see her finally crack.
I'm disappointed they didn't bring back the original Louise
