And what exactly happened to poor old Mags?
The actress who played her has motor neuron disease and had to leave the soap for health reasons.

That was the best episode in ages!
Loved all the fire scenes, I take it Annette's died I really want McAleer to survive! Why couldn't McAleer free Annette from being tied and make a run before the fire got way to big? Great episode. Fair City has it's weak episodes but when it's good, it can be really good

Yeah shocker! Good to see Fair City doing well though. Quote:
Long-running Irish soap Fair City has been beating its UK rivals Coronation Street and EastEnders in the ratings at home this year.
The RTÉ One drama currently has 50,000 more viewers than Corrie and 65,000 more fans than EastEnders in Ireland, the Evening Herald reports. It is thought that controversial storylines and surprise plot twists have helped the programme build its audience in recent months. Last night, a massive blast on the show left the lives of Carrigstown residents hanging in the balance. An RTÉ spokesperson explained: "The year-to-date average figures show that Fair City has an average audience of 465,000 and an average share of 34%. "EastEnders has an average audience of 400,000 and average share of 31.8% and Coronation Street has an average audience of 415,000 and average share of 31%. "This proves that Fair City is still Ireland's number one popular soap and home produced soap, beating both Coronation Street and EastEnders." Fair City celebrated its 20th anniversary last month. |

I was shocked that Annette didn't escape the fire, but tbh, since they married her off to Bill, I haven't liked her character at all, it's just hard to picture such a strong, intelligent woman being manipulated so blatantly, but I guess it does happen.
Personally I thought the kidnap thing was badly done, I kept thinking there must have been 10 different ways and times (at least) where they could have made some sort of escape or alert people to their plight i.e. Barry works in the office underneath, couldn't they keep stamping their feet to alert him?? Anyway, having said that, the fire and explosion were pretty well done and it was a good episode, mostly due to McAleer, the actor plays him very well as the hard businessman with a strong sense of loyalty to people he cares about. Btw, what happened to his daughter?? Glad that Bob has been conned, can't think of anyone who deserves it more. But the character who I find one of the most annoying is Heather, she is so selfish!! Finally, Christy and Carol, who would have thought !! I have to say initially I didn't think it would work, but with such good actors I think they have made it believable and I hope it is kept going, wonder if Carol is too old to have a baby??![]() ![]()

I thought the kidnap was ridiculous too -- they were plenty of opportunities for escape.
I did like the little group that Annette, Barry and Seamus had going (they've seemed kind of seperate from all the other characters for awhile now) but it did make me realize why the characters in other soaps such as Corrie are generally so thick and animated. The storylines with the three were unfortunately kind of boring (until they brought in Crazy Bill, of course) although they involved three good characters individually. I actually didn't find Annette's manipulation too difficult to believe, I completely understood her draw to Bill. I wish he hadn't been crazy and they'd just continue to live happily because he was a wonderful character (I preferred ordinary hilarious Bill to crazy psycho Bill). Heather drives me mad too, she is actually unbelievably selfish, how do people put up with her?!! I remember for years I just took her as the resident generic thirty-year old woman character, but I can't get over some of the things that come out of her mouth.

Good ep on Sunday!
So Bill has died too then? ![]() I really enjoyed the Annette/McAleer/Bill storyline and it's good Barry's been involved too, pity it's not playing out longer because the Bob/Rennee/Brendan/Heather storyline is boring me to tears! I reckon Brendan will go down for killing Floyd. Why didn't McAleer appear in Sunday's episode? |

It's a shame that Fair City isn't broadcast here in the UK because I would definately watch it.
![]() I think RTE should make it available to viewers outside of Ireland on their website even if it means paying to download. |

Fair City - Help Needed
Hi all,
I am new to DS though I have used it as a guide to audience opinions in various ways for years now. As it stands, I have a problem. Due to work, I have got to now start watching 'Fair City' which, by all accounts is a really good soap. Trouble is, I am based in Scotland and have exhausted every possibility (SKY, RTE International, irish proxy servers) of seeing the soap to no avail. What is now left to do, as a last resort is ask someone to record it and post it to me. I have no contacts in Ireland and am sending the appeal via DS. All costs for DVD's or tapes and postage will be reimbursed and I'm happy to pay you for your time too. If anyone is interested in this, or can give me advice on how I can catch the show over here, please let me know. Many thanks in advance. Jim |

Jim Haven't watched FC for over a week, but watching the beginning of the trial now. Could be very good if the people in the courts weren't such atrocious actors. Can't believe it's been over a year since Floyd died. There was something really gripping about it, despite my intense dislike for Heather / Brendan and the weirdness of the whole incest thing. Floyd was good too, it's a pity he wasn't in it for longer.

![]() Robert was back tonight ![]() ![]() Don't know exactly what's going on either tbh, but I wanna read that letter! That little Eleanor's acting has improved Thought she was pretty good tonight, she's usually awful imo. Though one scene with her that always sticks in my mind is when Floyd was ill and was looking after her, and he collapsed on the floor under the table. He was really convincing and it was really creepy. Probably didn't need her to act anything in that one, the poor kid was probably terrified.

Yeah, Robert being back was awesome, though it was weird to see him in a serious situation after all the comedy stuff he's had in the last few months. But it still worked, he's such a brilliant character.

I want to read that letter too. They should upload it onto the FC website for us viewers to see!

HEY wait a second, just remembered that Yvonne's pregnant - did I miss something?? Her and Connie and whoever else have disappeared for almost a month at this stage?? Hope they don't do a 'Lara' on her and have her pop up in like 6 months with the baby and have the rest of the world forget about it for that time. Yvonne and Connie had just found out and suddenly all the characters related to them went offscreen?? Wonder when they're back. Paul's still going around blissfully unawares too.
It would be quite nice if Yvonne and Connie were to raise the kid though. |

Fair City help
Hi all,
further to my previous post, I have now set up an Irish Proxy server and am watching the show here in Scotland. For those of you that can't get it, the proxy provider is overplay and can be found here: http://www.overplay.net/r.php?i=4284641267 It costs $9.99 (about 6 quid) a month. I can now watch Fair City and other RTE shows. Thanks to everyone for their help. |

The actor who plays Christy was really good when in the stand.
Brendan (about Robert): "It's like talking to a robot" ![]() ![]() One thing though, there's a chap in the court (cant remember his name but it was mentioned in Tuesday's episode) and his voice is almost gone in the exterior scenes outside the court room, and when he's in the court room his voice is fine, has anyone else noticed this? |
