New character alert...

A new teenage kid on the way for Jo and Dermot. He arrives this week.

From the Fair City website...

Quote:
“Though Jo hasn't bargained on how difficult an angst ridden, vodka swilling teenager can be.

Philip O'Connor arrives at Jo and Dermot's home, a damaged 15 year old boy whose world, so far, has been a succession of disappointments. He has spent a great deal of his young life in foster care. Repeatedly mistreated by his parents, he is initially withdrawn; slow to trust, and cynical about adults and authority figures.

Philip was born in 1995 and has been in and out of care since childhood. Philip adored his father, despite the man's heroin addiction and when he died when Philip was ten, he was devastated. Philip was left to the mercy of his mother, a habitual drunk. Philip's life revolves around either living with his mother, or being placed in emergency foster care when his mother is hospitalised for alcohol related illnesses and injuries.

Can Dermot and Jo give the stability Philip needs? Or will it be too much strain on Ben, and their happy home life?

Philip is played by Gary Nolan.”

Im not sure if i like this or not as Jo can be annoying as hell sometimes.

What does everyone think of Philip?

He's a promising character with lots of potential that could be explored. I loved the scene tonight where Dermot sat beside him and listened to his iPod music and good dialogue too. This Philip guy clearly has had a tough life so far and I think Dermot could be person to get through to him and he could end up being a brother figure for Ben too. I'd like the arguements with Jo to continue. He could become friends with Mark Halpin and Sean Cassidy too. Philip's mum must be a nutcase though - walking in front of a car drunk!

Nice to have a breaks from the Bishops. Yvonne changed her mind fairly quick about wanting to adopt the baby but the actress was really good tonight. Nice stuff with Rachel holding the baby too. I have a feeling Connie is going to steal the baby and flee to Australia to be with her sick father Ronan. Or else Louie will. Connie called the baby Ruth! I wonder if we'll see Ronan arrive in Carraigstown?

He did have a daughter with another women years ago i can't remember her name, she ended up with Barry who took on the responsibility of the baby, but it died soon after it was born, we are going back 15 years or more.

Paul is - after them in the lift just before the centenary parade episode in September!

Yvonne is such a misreable cow at the moment. Not liking her attitude about Ruth.

I'd love it to be neither of them. Could Yvonne have had a drunked one night with Damien perhaps.

I'm loving her comments to Connie. "I miss her when I'm gone" Get used to it!" Any other character i'd feel sorry for but since it's Connie sympathy is at a premium.

Good to see bitchy Yvonne back as well though; she's been too nicey nice for too long

i heard she's taking a break from FC for a while (my gran told me so not the most reliable source ) anyone know if that's true?

I'm not a fan of connie's lately all this planning behind Yvonne's back and being obsessed with the baby. I really want paul and niamh to adopt it now.

i think there's big potential there for phillip joining the soap and jo and dermots family. i liked his scene with jo tonight

Tonight episode (sunday) was hugely enjoyable and i agree some of the catty comments yvonne is coming out to connie are brilliant.

Niamh and Paul just have to get baby ruth in the long terms but its a great storyline, fair city isnt known for having the best actors actreses but yvonne, connie, niamh and paul are 4 good actors who deliver great scenes together.

Philip is a surprisngly good addition to the show and the scene with jo was good tonight although jo irratates the hell out of me at time.

Fair City is in pretty strong shape at the moment and the acting overall is improving as newer additions to the show show are better actors than some in the show for a while.

I think that's definitely true.

I would say your point about the baby story is part of a real shift in emphasis on the show. The stories tend to focus more and more on the good actors, even the ones who used to be fairly peripheral.

Paul and Niamh and Bob are obvious beneficiaries, but I particularly like the chances that Damien is getting. He was always a very strong presence when he had something to do, but usually he was a walk-on in other people's stories. We're getting to see him in his own right now, and that looks set to continue if the previews this week are anything to go by.

Anyone see last night's ep? It was good!

Has Yvonne left for good or is she returning?
jaay

Last episode was fantastic. Fair City really seem to be finding their feet again as the last few weeks have been truly gripping and the Sunday evening episodes have been very good.

WalfordFanatic Yvonne is only taking a 6 month break but she will be back again. Im presuming in time for the Christmas heartache that Niamh usually goes through.

The Sunday eps have been really good. I really hope they improve the mid weeks eps too. With the show hitting the 21st anniversary in September, I hope there's a good summer full of gripping storylines, not crap filler which some soaps normally due to it being summer.

Thanks jaay, she will probably turn up on Christmas Eve or something and surprise Paul and Niamh. Does this mean Connie is gone too for good/6 months? Not sure she would work in Carraigstown without Yvonne, unless she returned and had an affair with Louie. I think the actress who plays Suzanne is on Maternity leave now, not sure about that though.

I do like the new Mark Halpin though, albeit he couldn't look any different than the previous one.

Hey walfordfanatic

Yea I think Connie is gone for good but I'm not totally sure.

The sunday episodes have been great lately but as far as I know the Sunday episode is like the Friday episode of Eastenders so that's why it's been quite dramatic of late.

And a little fan fiction the current Fair City producer Brigie De Courcy use to work on Eastenders but I'm sure what era.

Also this Sunday marks the beginning of Tracey maternity leave as she departs Carraigstown.

Suzanne as far as I know the actress has returned from her maternity leave and her lack of presence is story based to do with Damien cheating.

Hey Guys
I don't know if you've seen or not but in this weeks Inside Soap and also on the cover are our very own Damien and Suzanne Halpin.

I think Inside Soap may be planning on featuring Fair City more.

I hope a storyline starts around now and comes to a conclusion in the 21st anniversary episode in September.

Bela realising he has cancer maybe/Dean and Tracey's wedding in an hour special?
jaay
03-06-2010
They have already done a cancer storyline with Bela when he found a lump. Remembering back I don't think they handled it very well and it wasn't a long running story.

For the 21st Anniversary week I'd like them to kill off Rita Doyle and have a huge funeral with all her kids returning. As the Doyles are the first family of Fair City it's only right their in on the action on the anniversary week.

Tie in the stories about Suzanne and Damien break up and (hopefully) Yvonne's early return (although I think she won't be back til Xmas)

So................ when did Mark get a new face and where did Charlie Kelly get the posh accent?

Not sure about Charlie's accent but the original actor who played Mark left to pursue a career in the music industry, I believe.

Who felt sorry for Christy tonight? I thought Carol loved him.
WalfordFanatic
16-06-2010
Yay, Carol said yes to Christy's proposal.

I enjoyed the Blooms Day episode and all the references throughout the episode.

What's up with Leo Dowling? Is he a man or a mouse?

I think we will see Carol and Christy tie the knot for the 21st anniversary episode, and Ritchie Lennon will go on a kill someone, but was it accidental or not; and who has he killed?

what's up with leo's voice lately?

What's in the water at RTE?! First Charlie's posh accent and Leo can't even open his mouth when he talks!

Bob Charles is really annoying me at the moment. He's a bloody grown man. I don't understand why he's still around in Carraigstown when there's nothing really left for him there.

I hope the final scene tonight was a hint at an upcoming Carol/Bob affair behind Christy's back to be revealed at their wedding?
WalfordFanatic
25-07-2010
Anyone been watching Fair City lately? It was a good episode tonight!

Has Duncan gone for good? It seems those scenes with him, Sarah, Keith and Doug in McCoys were his final scenes.

Nice scenes at Dolores' housewarming party tonight. Intruiged as to what this Aoife character is upto. I'm glad Dolores found out, but I doubt it'll be stay secret with her for long. I think if Robert does find out, it would be such a fantastic soap reveal and would be so funny. Robert is classic. Everything is so black and white to him so it would make it twice as good.

Wayne Molloy is one of my favourite characters. What has happened to Justine though? I may have missed her leaving or did she just disappear?

I think the new Doctor is promising - I think they should pair her with Ray as he's just lying idle with Deegan and Jennifer in that apartment. I don't know how true this is, but I heard a rumour that Neasa (remember she had a quick fling with Damien?) is the daughter of Doctor Judith as they have the same surname, or is that just a coincedence?

I loved the heart-to-heart Damien and Suzanne had tonight, although I have a feeling she's starting to have feelings for Louie Gleeson. If that does happen, I wonder what Yvonne will think when she returns at the end of the year - that her ex and sister are an item. I hope they don't split Damien and Suzanne up though. I like the new Mark too.

What has happened with Seamus McAleer? I remember those brilliant episodes with Bill and Annette in the fire and he survived - didn't he? Has he left Carraigstown?
