Are you letting the Foxsat do the upscaling from SD? Because someone on here suggested to me when I said something similar to set it to pass the original through to the TV and let the TV do the upscaling.

The result was a far superior picture.

I do go to sports events when I can afford the time (most of my tv viewing is timeshifted due to work).

However even going to 1 football match on Sat and 1 on Sunday would cost over £100pw including travel - basically I haven't got that sort of free cash (sky is a bargain in comparison).

As for cricket matches - my mate paid £85 for a ODI match last month with travel on top.

Basically watching sport is a rich man's hobby.

Walking to my nearest premiership football/premiership rugby or first class cricket ground is not an option.

I also frequently spend 8 or 9 hrs walking during work.

I could also use the time I save in travelling (and cost) on gym membership.

Yes,tried all settings, compared to the V+ the Foxsat sd is more soft and I'd describe it as "waxy".

Probably a faulty box, then. Or perhaps an incompatibility with the TV. Or, maybe the Virgin picture is oversharpened meaning that the TV sharpness has been turned down to accommodate it.

I make these suggestions because the SD output is pin-sharp on my set - I sometimes find myself checking for the HD DOG because I can't believe that the picture I'm watching is SD.

For many HD programmes I get the feeling that the reason they look so good is not because they are HD per se but rather that the production company are more meticulous when using HD. i.e. if you are using the most expensive equipment then it makes sense to use your best camera and lighting people.
