Roaming charges - who is right...
Please help settle a disagreement........
Say my friend went on holiday (to spain for example) and took his phone with him....... If I send him a text, using the usual 07xxxxxxxxx number...... does it cost as a standard text on my bill? or does it cost extra? If I call him, again using the 07 number, does it come out of my minutes / standard rate? or does it cost me extra? (I understand the person recieving the call will usually pay extra - but it's normally free to recieve a text) |

Your phone call to him will come out of any inclusive minutes you have. (After all, calling a UK mobile you don't know it might be abroad).
Your friend will pay the international leg of the incomming call. At whatever rates his provider charge for receiving a call while abroad. Your text to him will come out of your inclusive minutes. Depending on his tarrif and provider, he'll be charged receiving the text while abroad, though Which? seem to state that receiving texts abroad is free. |

this is exactly what I though.
friend of mine who works for a major mobile phone company seems to think that I would be charged extra.... ...I said well that stupid, because how am I supposed to know they've gone on holiday? she says yeah, people come into the shop complaining about that all the time, that its really unfair. |

He's talking b******s mate
Like it't been said earlier you account for the UK leg and he pays to recieve the International leg of the call. It's been like this for years and to be honest i think your friend should find a new job ![]() BTW i work for Carphone Warehouse and i've never recieved a complaint of this nature in nearly 3 years. |

The only complaints I get are when people get their bill and then complain that they didn't know how expensive it was?
Did they ask the network first before they went? No. Is it their fault? Yes. Do they then say it's unfair and want a refund? Usually. Do they get one? Do pigs fly? ![]() Ignorance is no excuse. |

Yeah its 100%:
You will not be charged anything extra for contacting a number that is roaming in a different country as it acts as if they are still in the UK for you. However the other party who is roaming is charged for receiving incomming calls "network dependent" and i believe no UK network charges for receiving SMS while roaming any more just for sending which is now a flat rate for all networks; on Vodafone if you have passport its 11p in a passport country and 24p in any other country for sending SMS. You are NOT charged anything extra for contacting someone who is roaming, however if you are also roaming on a foreign network then you will be charged what ever the rate is. |

Hi there
I just waanted to jump on and cofirm that the guys here are right. If you call a UK mobile that is travelling but you are still in the UK you won't be charged extra. This is confirmed in our Help Centre here - clicky me. If you'd like more information on roaming costs they are confirmed here. Have a good night! Kirsty Web Relations Team Vodafone UK |

If you are on '3' you will receive a text each time your phone logs onto the overseas network informing you what the charges will be.
