I just didn't enjoy it. Andre was the highlight of the night, but his performace was pretty flat. There's always usually two or three acts that usually entertain me, but nothing did today. Meh.

Anybody else feel the same?

Interesting you should say that, because I'm pretty sure every act sang live, even Mr Andre. I was surprised as anyone, long time since that has happened. Most of the acts were American though, who are inclined to sing live I've noticed.

Didn't seem flat to me, maybe your mood , Mr Kash was his usual crap self, NERD were the highlight for me

I'd never watch TOTP these days, but I was going on the fact that they always seemed to mime on TOTP. Not the artists' fault, but I thought the BBC used to insist that the actual record was played, not a live interpretation of it.

I dont know when that rule was, but it's generally been a mix of live and mimed for years, they often change lyrics too, say mentioning TOTP or whatever. I suspect the BBC couldn't demand such terms these days, as I don't think alot of the big name acts ever mime, to protect their credibility.

It's a shame because TOTP was like a nail in my tv viewing as a child. Not anymore

But surely thats just growing up, isn't it? If TOTP is still going in 20 years, guaranteed there'll be 20 somethings and late teens saying, "god, I always used to watch this as a kid, it's so crap now", has it really changed that much (apart from crapper presenters )?

I'm strangely always in the habit of watching it, even though some weeks I find it rubbish, and often only half watch it while on the PC.If it's still going when I hit 60 (that's a long, long way off, I should add), I'll probably be still watching it, but probably thinking, "god, what is this racket, music was so much better years back!" .

The annoying thing about TOTP is how many previews it has now, compared to featuring songs actaully in the charts that week. TOTP always had a few previews here and there in the past, which I liked, but now it is at least 50% previews, which is irritating - if I wanted that sort of mix, I'd watch CD-UK (from which most of the ideas for the new TOTP seem to have been ripped off anyway). What is the point of calling it Top Of The Pops and then featuring only a few of the songs that are currently most popular?!

And all the time wasting backstage reports and articles about so and so being away on tour etc; CD-UK can afford to do this because it has an hour long time slot, but TOTP is only half an hour, and it chooses to waste time on these features, time that could be given instead to more currently popular songs, which is what the show is supposed to be about anyway! And also what is with the heavy focus on 19 management acts - several previews, not just one, of Victoria Beckham's single before it was released; Emma Bunton going and interviewing Motown artists - why Emma and not one of the TOTP journalists doing the interview? Andi Peters seems intent on gving Simon Fuller as much publicity for his acts as possible.

I think, in a way, its better, (the only good thing about new TOTP over old) because it reflects the way the chart works these days (although I dont like the way the chart works, I've started a separate thread on that). Under the old system, by the time an artist appeared on TOTP with their new song, everyone had heard it, seen them perform it on CDUK, or whatever, and probably most people who liked it enough, had already bought it. So it all rather seemed irrelevant. One reason why they had probably been shedding viewers - whether things have improved with the annoying Tim Kash, who knows. Plus I think all of the previews are from artists that are certs to get in the top 20, so you 'd have seen them a few weeks later anyway.

I dont mind the news bit so much, as its only about 2 minutes long, the interviews and the premium rate compos are crap, I'd rather see performances.

It's pretty obvious that "New TOTP" = CD:UK. Maybe thats why they never asked Cat to do the job, else it would have been even more obvious.
