But its kinda not the first episodes though, as they are already travelling together. I will send you the episode via email once its done. |

I think thats whos doing them if Ive got anything wrong please let me know Thanks. Basically I was just wondering if you run or work for an actual production company or are you doing this as just a side-project that you're doing for fun? I'm looking to go into writing and this kind of script-writing appeals greatly to me even though right now I only write occasionally for pleasure and haven't studied writing techniques as such. That said, if you're still looking for a writer for your Christmas Special I'm sort of interested in throwing my name into the ring! (I won't be offended if this is ignored though to be honest!)

Hey, i have a good reason to develop the doctor and companion more.
Instead of making them represent all sorts of doctors we should actually give them phrases like fantastic or allons-y. That way we could write a few e-books with the doctor and companion (without them seeming like just any doctor) . That way it could help advertising or bring in readers or something. And that way, we could set the doctor and companion in diffficult to film locations like historical places or alien planets. and you could take special shots with the actor and actress to make covers. Just an idea, because i have tonnes of episodes set on alien worlds and this way we could use them!! |

Hi Steven, sorry I posted this before but I'm not sure if you noticed or not (and if you did and ignored me then I feel like a bit of a knob, but hey).

Is this just an idea or do you have them all written because that idea you mentioned does interest me alot. |

Over the years of who writing, i have accumilated 5 pretty good stories out of the 100's of bad ones i have made. This way we could use them. Yeah, so only two i have started writing. But say if we wanted 3 ebooks then you could just pick the best one. However im going to try finish the actual episode script rather than the ebook. Otherwise i'll never get it done!!

Well, i said i had started writing 2 and had created/plotted them all. However, they contain lots of difficult things to make like, cyborgs, alien planets, submarines, o neill colonies, aliens, oceans of sand (literally), steampunk daleks, trains, isembard kingdom brunel, and various other things. Which all may be difficult to make. So would be better for a ebook. With pictures of the actors on the front of course!!
![]() Also, will you use murray gold music?? and i have sent you an email with more questions. i hope i haven't scared you with those ideas for plots! the one im doing now i have just overhauled it a bit but hasn't got anything like these in. I'll send you the first one soon!

Those sound pretty cool ideas. Im sure I could get around those obstacles. Yes will be using Murrays music.
Any idea of his costume yet? if you have a set idea in mind then i'm sure it will inspire anyone writing the episodes |

This is a very interesting idea. I would have loved to have written an episode, what with 'writing an episode of Doctor Who' easily being in my top 5 ambitions, even if it was just for fun.
I can't wait to see how this turns out. Good luck to all involved. |

As fun as fanfic can be, you really have to be quite careful not to upset the BBC.
There are a lot of copyrights and licensing involved with DW and its related shows (and Murray Gold's music), and I would imagine they might take a keen interest in this idea. It's worth clarifying your position with them first, to save any heartache after people have spent time or money on this. I'm assuming you've watch The Stranger series, which despite having actual DW actors in it, and a budget - was just glorified fanfic in the end, and it was very, very careful to avoid any references to DW directly, even though The Stranger was clearly intended to be seen as The Doctor. Good luck. |

I was thinking about that. Just look at how sensitive the Terry Nation estate are over use of the Daleks. They won't even let the Doctor Who production use them without having a special deal in place (one that obviously requires them to be in the show at least once a year)

Its perfectly legal because its not for profit. Their are literally hundreds of fan films that people make.
It becomes very much more complicated if they subsequently licence their work onwards - look at the agreement they had to strike over K9 not being a major character in SJA - because a different show had agreed licensing terms. I don't doubt this would affect the BBC's reaction if you did a K-9 show, as the license holders will complain about it devaluing their license, or some other business argument. Fanfilms are *tolerated*, which is a considerable distance from legal. Just look what happened when someone took someone else's fan work and tried to sell it : http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/h...row/html/1.stm Nonsense? Absolutely, but as far as the Beeb was concerned they were not making money from something which they had no interest in making themselves, but were prepared to stop others anyhow. What a copyright holder does with their property is entirely their decision. So, as I said, good luck. |

Sadly not; the copyright holder can still decide what can and cannot be done with their property even if you aren't trying to make profit from it.

That maybe the case, however, it is for non profit gain, there for legal. Secondly, (wait, was there a firstly?) if we create our own elements then we own the copyright to it. (eg rtd owns the copyright to slitheen not bbc). These elements could be companions, their familes, monsters, organizations, plots (maybe). There fore, we could, as you kindly linked to, we could create knitted characters/monsters or posters or god knows what. And then make a spin-off with all our elements in. Like ex-companions battling our monsters in our secret organization. (With no mentions to daleks, or the doctor of course). Anyway, its just an idea. But first we have to make the fan film!
![]() It's entirely down to the copyright holder to decide whether they will permit it or not. It's far easier to clarify this before you do something, than afterwards when you may be facing angry letters from a lawyer. The single biggest problem you face at the moment is the DW universe is hot property - there is the main show, and three spinoffs, audio books, paper books, audio plays. That might mean they are extra-sensitive about fan efforts. But they might not be. The BBC own the rights to the design of the blue box, and Terry Nation's estate are fiercely possessive about the Daleks, but neither of them seem bothered about the fan sites offering plans and guides to make physical props. If you are lucky, you'll fall into that group; they know about you, but aren't bothered enough to take action. Once more, good luck. I'm not trying to deter you, I'm hoping to avoid seeing another news article about the Beeb going after fans. |

Steven, I PM'd you about maybe doing a shorter story? Like for CIN or something? I don't think I could write a proper episode, well it depends on how long you want it, I explain more in my personal message.

Hi
I was thinking of writing something like the doctor's body being posessed and the companion not knowing, and something funny that you wouldn't expect to see in DW, to make it feel special for CIN. Tom |
