I think so, as in the only band people will remember

everything else is just chip paper, a few promising bands but they split up

Only if you listen to a certain type of music.

I think they are good, clearly have a great collective talent, but they are nowhere near original enough to remembered amongst the pop/rock greats.

I said they were decent not great, but if they split up tomorrow you can imagine them getting a headline at Glasto in ten years after a reform, I can't think of one other band this decade you can say that about

Coldplay and Muse would probably meet that criteria as well. The thing is, not every decent band is going to become that big so popularity alone isn't a good measure of the quality of British bands.

Having said that, most of my favourite bands of the last decade have been non-British so I would agree with the wider point you're making.

Hahahaha, that's funny! Arctic Monkey's are so bland it's unreal. Their albums should be used as a cure for insomnia!

Stans are so annoying, these music forums are full of people telling everyone else how their favourite singer/band are the best to come out of this country or such-like!

According to these forums, Arctic Monkeys, Rihanna, Britney, Lady GaGa etc are the be all and end all of the music industry, LOL!

every other thread and post on this forum is about how music is 'dead' and how all commercial music is 'terrible', so you must not visit very often. LOL!

lol headlining Glastonbury is for bands that are accesable enough to do so. theres lots of great uk bands that are too niche to headline Glasto so thats a bit of a big statement to say that AM are the only decent band to come out of the uk this decade. There are loads of bands this decade that have been great some sell better than others, not that that is relevant but it just shows that you haven't listened to enough music.

Muse realeased their first stuff last decade didn't they?

But that's just it, I don't! I don't create a million threads a day saying how the musc I like is the best kind of music and everything else is sh*t. I appreciate everyone's taste in music, I don't appreciate people saying their music is the best to be produced by a country in a decade... Especially when we're talking about the Arctic Monkeys, their music could induce a coma!

Yep, first EP was 1998, Showbiz was 1999.

can you see the question mark in the title, it's not a definitive statement?

I did see the question mark but as soon as I opened the thread, I saw the statement too. That everything else in the past 10 years has been ''chip paper''!

So funny, because if everything else is chip paper, then the Arctic Monkeys are most definitely the putrid fatty bits that clog your arteries

Unless you're talking of the kind that adorns walls, in which case the Arctic Monkeys are the annoying backing paper! Jut wont go away!

well, many people disagree with you. learn that what you are saying is merely your opinion.

The Libertines. If you rate Arctic Monkeys their starting point can be traced back to these.

The Cribs are excellent with really poppy tunes tucked in the whole punkish vibe. Love them

Darling, I know many people disagree with me, quite clearly! I also know that it is my opinion, that's a lesson you can reserve for yourself

Ashley Kingsley on the Keys, Carlos Hercules on the Drums, Paul Bruce on the Bass, Paul Reid on the Lead Guitar... They leave Arctic Monkeys trailing in their dust, by lghtyears too.

But of course they aren't popular or flavour of the moment like the Arctic Monkeys so disagree at will. Though I'm more inclined to take the endorsement of the NPG/Maceo Parker and Prince over an AM fan.

That's just one example though, there's many a great band that don't have mainstream success but are equally as amazing.

The Arctic Monkeys hardly push the boundaries in any field, do they? Lyrical content, production, instrumentation.. It's all just MOR bland indie pop. They mainly appeal to middle class kids who strive to be cool with their garage bands but inherently aren't.

Agree with JoJo. The Arctics haven't started anything new- and I don't find any of their songs particularly amazing.

They aren't going to be remembered as pioneers of a particular genre either. Though, due to their huge overnight success, they'll probably be remembered as a fad.

Really? Looking through the front page now, I see tons of threads on chart music; lady gaga, peter andre!, alex whats-her-face from the x-factor, leona, pixie (??), nadine coyle (??), Cheryl Cole, Sugababes, Mariah Carey, Madonna etc... and not ONE thread complaining about how music is dead and how commercial music is 'terrible'.

I visit often, and it's always like that

If there is a thread dissing chart music, it's very few and far between.

Oh right, so you only want bands you personally like, and they have to meet your very specific criteria? Sorry, I don't like guessing games .
