no1, are you out of your mind, Peter Andre releases his album this week?
![]() I liked Muse at first before they went complete and utterly nuts, each to their own though

peter andre - yh right lol
muse have changed their music style to more electronic but i think tht waqs a great move for them as it gives them a kind of new sound rather than repeating their first and second album over and over again in which they wouldnt be as successful as they are now |

It's a fantastic album - very different to their previous LPs, but they've always been progressive in their style and I really like the Resistance. I can't be sure where I'd place it if I ranked it with the other 4 ... but it's probably on a par with them, and there are a few tracks which will become firm favourites.

I don't really understand when people get annoyed over bands 'changing their sound'. I think music does need to be progressive and especially if you have been in a band for over 10 years, you are going to have very different ideas of what music should sound like, so why stick to the same formula throughout the band's lifespan?
Anyways, I've ordered my album and I expect it very soon, cannot wait! |

h i hate ppl saying 'oh their new sound is not as gd as their old one' because most times it shows they have a variety in their music and not churn out the same thing for two, three albums and then everyone would get bored of them.
I kno they aint on tghe same level as muse but bloc party hav changed their sound over the last two albums and have created some really gd songs and muse have down this brilliantly andstill use their roots from their past albums and added something new which makes this album on par with their earlier ones and can see some songs doing really well with muse fans |

Completely agree. In times like these, I always bring up AFI, who started in like the late 80's playing punk music. Nowadays people put them in the emo/goth/alternative category and I like their new stuff as much as their old music.
I just would hate it if my favourite band kept singing about the same topics in exactly the same way, like Nickelback (sorry to Nickelback fans!), because they just wouldn't be a progressive band. And hey, I liked Nickelback when they first started to release music, but then after 'Silver Side Up' I quickly realised that it all sounded a little samey! |

Yeah I suppose, but I think there's no point complaining - I think I would get so frustrated if the band that I liked for 10 years was making the same-sounding music throughout, perhaps that's what has attracted me to Muse...
![]() ![]() it's swings and roundabouts though, one of my favourite ever bands the Kinks initial stuff was soundalike shite and then Ray Davies turned into one of the best songwriters that ever lived

I think it can go both ways really, take bands like Kings Of Leon, I loved them and I still do but their newer stuff sounds really diluted to me "Sex On Fire" could have been written by anyone, same with the Noisettes, they used to be quite edgy and now they just sound like everything else....
but in saying that bands like Bloc Party and Radiohead have changed their sound and I love all their albums. The latter had a drastic change in that they became the most acclaimed band in the world with their own brand of rock on "OK Computer" and then with the next album "Kid A" completly stunned with ambient electronica, it was like a different band but I'd still place both albums in my top 10 of all time. One recent example of a band benefiting from a good change in sound this year is The Horrors. I dismissed them in 2007 as being all posers with no substance but "Primary Colours" is one of the best releases this year. I'll be downloading The Resistance tonight, I've heard United States Of Eurasia and The Uprising (the latter seems to be a rip off of a song called "Atlas" by a band called Battles) but thats just me.... |

Bloody genius
. Full stop.Shades of classical music in several tracks, especially tracks 11 - bits of Moonlight sonata and the Pathetique, but Musified ![]() I think Muse are totally recognisable from their 'sound' even when they do 'evolve'. |

Where as absolution... was more ballady and mellow imo for the most part, blackholes... was a lot more upbeat and rockier, with a wider variety of sounds and electronics, what is the resistance like in terms of style and sound?
(got it delviered cant wait to listen to it!). |

Less trademark guitar riffs, but more of an uplifting anthem feel to a lot of the songs.
I love it. |

Absolutley stunning. MK Ultra, Resistance, Undisclosed Desires, and Exogenisis Part 2 and 3 are my favourites at the minute.
The bit in Exogenisis Part 2 when Matt sings 'Tell us, tell us your final wish'. I actually get goosebumps listening that, its beautiful. The boys have sure done good! |

Yeah MK Ultra is relly gd and same with unclosed desires but im not sure about the exogenisis atm but the United States Of Eurasia i didnt like when i first heard it but now after a few listens its pretty damn good so a few more listens to exogenisis ill probably like as well
I really don't like Matt singing in french though on I Belong To You. The song itself is pretty catchy, but the french is weird. Only downside of the whole album for me. I am even warming to Guiding Light, which I didn't think I would. Unnatural Selection is also fabulous.

I love it .. and the more I hear it the more I love it.
Muse aren't afraid to take risks .. that's what makes them one of the most innovative bands around now. Their albums are only the starting point .. most of the songs on there will be transformed when played live ... in the way that 'Butterflies and Hurricanes' was. They embrace ridiculousness as well .. not taking themselves at all seriously and referring to their 'Monty Python side' .. you've only got to watch 'the making of' DVD to see how much fun they have with it, but they still manage to produce something original and epic. As Jo Wiley said, lots of bands say they're going to progress but few do .. and Muse are one of the few. I bet Kelly Jones has had to take himself off to far flung corners at the moment to escape the Musefest on radio and TV .. that cheers me up no end. |

I think it's a fantastic album and although I was disappointed they didn't get a higher chart position than #9 with 'Uprising' on Sunday I'll be gobsmacked if they don't get a Number 1 album with this little gem....
I think it fuses rock, dance & classical really beautifully. It's got hints of Queen, Blondie & Duran Duran without being overly 'oh that's Queen' or 'oh that's Duran Duran'.... it's all Muse. They're a brilliant band, I too was one of the lucky few who saw them in Teignmouth and they were phenomenal live. They fully deserve all the recognition and praise for what they do - they're one of the few British bands who are big, but not mainstream, but it all adds to their quirkiness and charm in my eyes I got ever so emotional listening to Exogenesis, I very almost cried! I can't wait to see them at the O2 in November! Sure you can compare it and say "It's not as good as Origin of Symmetry' or 'Absolution'", or whichever album you find your personal favourite (mine's Black Holes & Revelations actually) but it's swings and roundabouts really. The Resistance is excellent in it's own right.... an epic that deserves to be appreciated. And the fans will and I think that's fundamentally all the boys care about - making music for the fans... I doubt they give two hoots what the critics say (even though the majority have been complimentary) |
