As the title says, I'm looking for some different music outside the charts (I'm getting bored with just mainstream music and could do with some different and unique songs to listen to.

go look for it on the web, it's not all that hard to find!
Radio 1 sometimes play some decent less chart-friendly stuff, but mostly mainstream. i like both so it's ideal for me. wouldn't know what to recommend that you wouldn't be likely to of heard of but i'm sure others here can oblige.

Could you narrow it down a bit
? What sort of genre are you after? I could reccomend a lot of rock, metal and er, that type of music that just gets called pop because it doesn't fit any genre on earth , but if you're into cheesy pop or rap then I'm no use.

warp records would be a good start.
Here's a random few non-chatrt music that I currently like: Doll & The Kicks Sneaky Sound System Electrelane - No Shouts, No Calls album in particular Cat Power - I'd recommed the 'You are Free' album first Santigold Asobi Seksu - Look at Nefi & Girly as a starter track than maybe the Citrus album Bat for Lashes Ladyhawke Maps Temper Trap Roisin Murphy - Overpowered album Any of the Kitsune Maison Compilations These recommendations include mayn different genres but give them all a try anyway

Thanks for all the suggestions! I've found some interesting ones myself while searching Youtube for some of those acts:
Department of Eagles DEJAVU (was that ever a chart act?) Emiliana Torrini (she's Icelandic) Dune (Dance act, don't know where they're from) |

Just listening to some of these songs... they're certainly really good. Makes a change from the usual Top 40 stuff! Here's a couple more I found:
Paulina Rubio La Factoria Valentin Elizalde ![]()

Someone I was showing it to once described it as "the musical equivalent of being kicked in the shins"
I've always liked that |
