Order of dances - a question
Fudd
14-09-2009
Do you think that some dancers may be hindered by the order they dance? In the last few series the issue was that the first few dancers were on too early, leading to viewers missing the dance. This time we have a clash with Coronation Street (8.30pm-9pm) and The X Factor (8pm-9.15) to contend with.

Do you think the dancers who dance during the clash may see their vote hindered slightly?

not from my point of view

I wont be watching X Factor or Coronation Street

Strictly all the way for me!

Good point tho - some people may switch channels (fools) therefore missing some dances

No.

I think the people who are likely to vote won't suddenly switch off part way through to watch something else.

Depends how the show's going. If people find Bruce annoying, the dances boring and/or the judge panel lacking chemistry they may get fed up and switch. Though it's doubtful they'd vote for anyone then!

Coronation Street on Friday may be a bigger issue though.

People are most likely to watch the show all the way through.

If you check out the ratings thread, there was a discussion about the fact that whatever was on last week against Corrie dented it in the ratings. A big show like Strictly shouldn't have any problems holding up well.

No I don't think so. I always watch Corrie, but I'm just going to record it . X Factor can be watched on Sunday when it's repeated, and you can opt for catching up online .Just need to do abit of forward planning !

Interesting point, although I'd be inclined towards the theory mentioned that people who don't watch all the way through are less likely to vote.

I do think it's possible that the order of the dances could effect those that do watch all the way through though.

For example, say you have four dancers if the first couple are really good and the second couple less so and the third couple quite bad and then the fourth couple come on and perform slightly worse than the first couple but so much better than the fourth couple that people may think they are better than they are and vote for them instead of the first couple.

Of course this assumes that everyone votes purely on the quality of the dances not taking into account other issues such as popularity etc.

that's a great point made by the OP. Hadn't thought of that and it may be a factor. I also think voting numbers may be down given viewers will presumably have so little time to vote during a single live Sat night show.
Does anyone know if phonelines will open once the first 8 have danced their ballroom tonight?

As far as I'm aware they open only after all latin dances are complete tomorrow night. Hope so anyway, won't be fair otherwise imo x

I tend to flick over while Brucies doing his stuff - can't bear to watch or listen to him, or while they are showing training footage we've already seen for the umpteenth time (I don't need to see the couple's first meeting more than once thanks very much!) .

However I flick back very quickly given the rubbish on on the other channels!

I think for people like me who isn't a SCD fan and only tuning in this year for the fact that I'm sick of everything else (i.e. BB and X Factor) then it's possible that some people will tend to be fickle in what they choose to watch (these may also be people who tend to pick up a phone and vote if they like somebody). So yes, IMO the crossover time could have a slight impact, although I'm sure that SCD fans won't ever be swayed in turning over, just the same as diehard XF fans aren't likely to either except through breaks.

Whereas, I'm somewhere between a disillusioned X Factor fan and ready to begin the experience of SCD.

Most definitely BB, unfortunately.

I'm a complete noob to SCD.

That said, I'm looking forward to joining in the fun...or the acrimony...or just remaining quiet or whatever the flow.

It has nothing on BB - trust me! If you cut your teeth on that, this is a walk in the park.
