I have started looking at getting a BT Vision box and just have a few questions.

Now its been up and running for a few years what are your opinions of the service.

Does the pvr have an add skip button, i have a humax and that is one thing the other half is concerned about loosing.

Hows the pvr? i had a few before settling on the humax 3 years ago, the others where prone to crashes and missed recording but the humax has been almost faultless.

Are the value packs worth the money for the content you get, i would be looking at film and sport.

Any comments would be gratefully received, some of these have been answered before but the answers are quite old.

Don't know what an 'add skip' button is...sorry (probably means that BT doesn't have it!)

PVR is pretty solid now.

no, IMO the value packs aren't worth it. Picturebox has had things like Bill and Ted and even ET on it recently.

Sport on BT is something I have no knowledge of, again sorry, unless it's the marvellous replay system of almost full EPL games shown several hours after the result is known.

content is the weakest part IMO, everything in the value packs has been on DTT before. This is the reason I will leave BT as soon as is possible.

TV replay however is marvellous and the one thing I will miss.

Depends on your reasons for switching and what you have come from.

Overall I couldn't & wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Sport pack = excellent.

TV Pack = ok

TV Replay (BBC/4OD/ITV etc) = Fantastic

Picturebox = Naff

Is it worth it. Depends. If you want ESPN, then for about the same price as paying for it on Freeview you get a load of extra stuff.

Depends on how you see it.

i think you mean "ad skip"

Pressing one of the buttons allows you to skip forward 30 seconds so I just hit that a few times to skip the ads.

I could have guessed your reply matterhorn.

Personally, as Matterhorn says, TV replay is very good and offeres something sky cannot.

As for the packs, i don't find it suprising that none of them show something thats not been on DTT already. i don't think any OD service shows anything before its shown on its proper channel.

Movies: i'd say about 99% of people find picturebox useless. the films are all old and been on coutless times.

Sport: depends how into sport you are and is quite a handy feature. If you support a team you won't think twice about watching a match you already know the score of.

Music: mainly chart stuff so it depends on your music taste. they do have a few older live gigs and special collections. (eg at the moment they have nearly every Muse video available to watch). The bad points about the music is the random way its listed. Meaning it can take a while to find something as they try and group music together in their own made up sets. Also you can't set up play lists and when searching for your next track the video playing doesnt either stay in the background or move to the corner of the screen.

Kids: loads of your popular and new kids programs. ideal if you have kids.

SO while BTV isnt as good as Virgin or sky premium channel wise, it does offer something different.

I have a humax and the V box and I use both of them. As others have said, you definitely can skip the ads. I find the PVR's very similar in functionality, although Vision doesn't have the accurate recording facility and so if there is something I definitely don't want to miss, I use the humax to record it. BT has improved the padding with the latest firmware update and whilst it is still early days, I think this will help with the odd missed beginning or more annoying, end of a programme which used to occasionally happen. I've never had a missed recording using the V box.

I really like the on demand TV pack and use it all the time, much more than TV replay, although that can also be useful occasionally. It is not true to say that nothing is available on demand that hasn't been on DTT already, although a lot of it has. Lost series 3 and 4 have never been shown on DTT, but are available on demand. Also, the first series of the Wire was available on demand before it was shown on DTT and I'm sure there are other examples.

Quite frankly, if you have already seen everything that is available in the TV pack on demand, then you must have done nothing other than watch TV. Picturebox is OK for what it is although I only use it to watch the occasional film. You can look on the web site to get a good indication of the type of films that are shown.

I don't watch much on the sports pack either, but it really a matter of personal taste and there really isn't much on there that I am interested in; that might be different for you. I also definitely don't like ESPN as much as Setanta. ESPN now seems mostly to be foreign football matches, which I'm not really interested in watching. I am hoping that they pick up coverage of the FA cup, because the only thing I watch on ESPN is the occasional half of a Premier League game. I really miss watching the conference games.

However, all in all I like BT Vision and think it is stable, reliable and pretty good value for money.

Thanks for all the replys.

Yes i meant ad skipping, which as some people have said is a button that skips a preset time when you are watching a pre-recorded or time shifted program. on the humax it can be changed but most people set it to 30 seconds so that it skips an advert for each press.

The other question i forgot to ask about was accurate recording but betsvigi9 has answered that for me.

As i have no children and dont watch the free music channels neither of those packs interested me, other than them it seems like mixed reviews which i guess is what you would expect.

I think i may go for the £90 option of buying the box and then pay per view for each item watched and then see how much i use it.

Thanks again for all the quick replys

if you just want pay per view, then the cheaper option may be to buy a box of ebay, someone on another thread picked one up for £16 with a load of other stuff, then just phone bt up to arrange a bt vision account, so you can just set it up and go gfrom there

true, or if you are coming to the end of a BT contract then ask them for it free (they use BTV as a retention tool)
