Can't see a Photography section so I'll try here.

Is there a good quality camcorder/still camera available or is it best with a camcorder and separate digital camera ?

(Up to £600)

It all depends what level of quality you want for stills as even a top of the range camcorder does not approach the quality of a stills digicam. Personally I would go for separates.

Yes, I suppose trying to kill two fish with one stone doesn't always work. I want stills that I can use to sell some items on ebay, so I don't suppose the quality has to be that good.
I don't take that many still pictures, so I suppose a cheapo might do.

Though it was birds! Any that do stills will be ok for sticking on a web site and should be within you price barcket. Suggest you get one with USB connection so easy to transfer to PC.

Have a look here http://www.internetcamcordersdirect.co.uk/ and then check them out at somewhere like Jessops who are pretty good.
