I think a lot of good points have been made regarding the danceoff.

If we had more Pro dances, I think they would become boring, based on what they have done so far. There have been very memorable ones (Vince&Flav's Milonga and Waltz and Bri&Kristina's Mambo etc.) and some that had little appeal. They will have to fill in while the votes are coming in anyway, so we will always get some.

As already said, the danceoff could be one couple who have their most suitable dance against another with their least suitable, and based on that, the better overall dancer might be the loser based on that dance, although the judges usually dont base it solely on that dance like they are supposed to.
You can also have someone the public thought was safe, so didn't vote for, in the bottom two.

It cant be made to work perfectly and is always going to be controversial, so the BBC will definately keep it.

There are a lot of good points here. I would prefer to see the pro dancers rather than the dance off.

I think there will be a large proportion of Strictly viewers, who don't post on forums like these, who will like the pro dances will enough but not be particularly bothered by them.

The dance off is seen as more important because it's actually part of the competition rather than essentially filler.

The dance off provides controversy and a talking point (did judges send home the right person? were the right couples in there?) so they wont get rid of it.

I love the pro dances though. I'm sure we will get at least one while they count the votes (hopefully).

Put together, the two words dance and off is enough to send my blood pressure soaring and even to consider writing to the Daily Wail.

Everybody else has had their go about it here which by and large I agree with. It's a waste of time.

Sheesh, I prefer the pro dances. But last year's final was definitely too much. Too too much. This year, I hope the producers have learned that Less can definitely be More.
