BBC iPlayer by proxy to watch SCD this Friday
Easylistener
16-09-2009
I live abroad and it looks like the BBC will not allow SCD to be posted on Youtube this year.

I would willingly pay the BBC to watch the programme but they don't give people overseas that option no matter how many years they might have payed the Licence Fee.

Does anyone know a good proxy service which I can use to see SCD on iPlayer this week???

Hi,

At the time of my original post I was just referring people to this earlier post I made on this thread at post #163, saying that people outside the UK could use a proxy server, but since then I think some members have found good proxy services, so it would be nice if they could offer to share the details of services they chose in the end, even if it is by PM (I'm in the UK so I don't need a proxy server myself) .

If you do go for a proxy service and you want to watch the show live rather than on iPlayer, then check out this website that streams live UK TV channels - the quality of live streaming is excellent!

If you are not bothered about watching the show live and don't want to pay for a proxy service, then have a look at this site at http://immortalseed.com as you can download torrents of SCD shows (DWTS is also available).

You have to register with the site (it is free) and to use it you need to a little programme like uTorrent running that you can download from here http://www.utorrent.com.

After you have downloaded and installed uTorrent, open the programme and then go to the Immortal Seed website and search for the episodes of Strictly Come Dancing you want to watch.

When you find them click on Download and follow the instructions (your computer might run a bit slower when you are downloading the files, so I usually do this when I don't need to do anything special on the computer).

When the download is complete you can watch the show on a media player. I use VLC Media Player which you can get from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ as I find sometimes that Windows Media Player or RealPlayer won't play downloaded files.

Another thing to be aware of is that sometimes downloaded files are compressed into an archive and you may need another little programme called WinRar to help you open the files.

This all sounds a lot of bother, but once you get into a routine of using these programmes it does become quite easy and you can watch or listen to all sorts of things - honestly!

Hope this helps!

PS I am just passing on tips from my own experience and I have no connections to any of the sites I have mentioned!

Does TVCatchup not work for you lot outside UK?

Not legally. On the TVCatchup forum Dan from Admin says if all goes well it should be available in the EU by 19th December under the 'Television Without Frontiers' Directive, but no further news on out side the EU.

Is that like "Munchhausen's Syndrome by Proxy"?

I think I'm coming down with a bad case of "BBC iPlayer by Proxy".

Do any of these sites have ITT episodes? The non-proxy service sites?
