My mother-in-Law about 6weeks ago puchased Panasonic 37" Plasma TV. Being nearly 90yrs old she comes from the era of always unpluging at the socket every night, today see phoned to say she could get no picture (area gone Digital). I had to retune (scan) to get any Reception.
In my opinion a modern TV needs to be left powered on to retain Channel details.
can anyone confirm or not

Details are stored in NVRAM (EEPROM), so no there's no need to leave it plugged in to remember the channels.

Not done DSO yet (2011) but don't you often need to retune during it?.

None of our TV's have this problem.

But recently on my mothers Humax, we (I) had to rescan, as a number of channels had moved.
No probs for her since then.

On a v.similar topic, her Numax has no 'off' button.
It has standyby on the remote.
A physical button on the side of the set - standby again.
But no way of fully turning the set off (for overnight and powersaving)

So she turns it off at the wall every night...

When will these manufacturers learn....

Nigel, thanks for info.
yes you do have to retune and this was last done for the2nd time on Sept 9th, the funny thing was that on the day of the problem all Freeview sets in this area displayed a banner advising us of a 3rd retune on Sept 30th

Think the retune on the 30th is needed cos they are swapping channels around from the Caradon Hill transmitter

I use one of those new power strips that work inline with a remote control.

You put into standby the primary device (in my case that's my AV amp) and 30 seconds later the power is removed from all but selected items (those that are connected to a bypass socket). Even the Amp is completely turned off.

To awaken everything the Amps remote control is used to reawaken the power strip - this then allows me to use the amps remote control again to take the amp back out of standby. All the other items are turned to standby too - like the TV, so can be reawakened as required.

Although everything is still plugged in, standby power consumption is reduced to a fraction of even one of the other items being left in standby, as only the powerstrip is in standby.
