I had a stack of dvds stored in individual plastic and/or paper sleeves and I've just managed to spill coffee over them! Most of them I've managed to get out the sleeves and into other sleeves before the coffee has seeped through the sleeve and onto the disc. A few of them it's seeped onto the label side,I've wiped these dry with paper towel being careful not to touch the playing side. do you reckon they should be ok?

Provided you clear up the coffee from BOTH sides of any affected disk before it solidifies then you should be OK.

Don't be afraid to wipe the recording side of the disk. Provided you use something like a tissue or soft cloth that does not scratch then you will be OK. Even if the coffee has dried out you should still be able to clean it up. Just use a lightly dampened cloth and rub the affected area gently. The water should dissolve the coffee residue and remove it safely.

It's leaving sticky finger prints and deep scratches in the playing side of the disk that stops them working. A gentle rub with a soft cloth or tissue that doesn't scratch shouldn't do any harm.

its just two slabs of plastic glued together. just wash them off, you don't want a sticky tray

I once 'washed' dried JAM off a cd face (playing side) with a slightly damp tissue and the cd still plays to this day.

Use very luke warm water and a small amount of detergent in the kitchen sink.
No grit in the sink or bowl please.

Wipe away from the centre-hole to the edge of the CD. (error correction can correct those small scartches)

Rinse under the cold tap and leave to air dry.

Consider memory/sticks cards. Much more robust/convenient.

Yes, basically you can wash them.

Use Fairy liquid type detergent and just cold water. Dry by patting with soft tissues, don't rub them.

When ALL the water/moisture has evaporated if you have a very soft CD/DVD-Cleaner cloth you can carefully polish them.

Basically it's gentle strokes from the centre to the outer.

You should have enough coffee granules left in the pot for another cuppa too if you're lucky.

Clearly this is nonsense. Think about it. Pour coffee or even water over any electrical device and you can wave it goodbye.

Convenient? Yes. Robust? No.

I recommend a glasses or lens cleaning cloth (microfibre, not calotherm). Or any microfibre cloth come to that. Lay on a sheet of tissue to remove excess liquid, then clean from centre to edge with a CLEAN microfibre cloth.

DVD's and CD's are pretty robust devices, just run them under a tap and dry with a towel.

The spreading jam trick was a Philips advertising gimmick when CD first launched.

LOL that may be the case, but I did clean dried jam of my cd, and it does still play just fine

Thanks for all your responses. I rescued most of em,one ended up with a sticky mark on the edge but it was only partly recorded and the mark wasn't on the part that was used,so I finalised it and ripped the contents to the pc.
