Imagine for a moment that Coronation Street is going to end. You have control over what happens in the last 60 minute special episode - and like Night and Day, the last episode leaps four years into the future. What would you do? Here's my suggestion. I do apologise in advance for it being quite long!

[Rita wipes dust from a shelf in the Kabin. The shelves are all empty. It is night.]
R: "I'm going to miss this place, Norris".
N: "It won't be the same without you Rita."
R: "Twenty years I've run this shop, never thought I'd leave"
N: "We all have to move on".
R: "Aye. That we do."
<pause>
N: "D..d ... do you remember the first time we met?"
R: "How could I forget? I was running the shop here with Mavis..."
(At this point, they discuss some memorable moments of Corrie history to do with the shop and the pub. There are no 'flashbacks', just Rita and Norris talking.)
[A carn horn sounds outside]
N: [upset] The taxi...
R: "I'll never forget you Norris."
N: [fighting back the tears] "You'll write?"
R: "Aye. We'll stay in touch".
(They give each other a big hug and say goodbye. Rita takes one last look at her empty shop, and switches off the lights. Norris and Rita both leave. The last shot of this scene is from inside the dark shop, and the door is pulled shut, the 'CLOSED' sign swinging from side to side).

[Part Two]
[Graveyard. Sarah, David, Beth and Audrey are stood here. Karl and Todd are stood in the distance, watching, holding hands.]
S: [breaks down into tears]
A: "Oh Sarah my love! Don't cry! Come on. We're stronger than that."
S: "I'm sorry gran."
A: [trying hard not to cry] "Come on... come on love..."
[The camera pans down. In view are the graves of Alf Roberts, Gail, Nick and Brian.]
B: "I miss Gran"
A: "Oh Bethany my love..." [Tear runs down her cheek]
[Sarah stops crying]
<pause>
S: "Do you remember when..."
(They recall happy memories from their life together, as well as other events like
Brian being stabbed. Richard is not mentioned at all.)
A: "Come, we best be off. I've left the oven on."
(They all walk off together, Todd and Karl remain in the background. As Audrey, Sarah, David and Beth leave they
walk past Richard's grave, but none of them notice it.)

[Part Three]
[Diedre's house. Blanche is sat at the table waiting for tea.]
D: "Mother, will you call Ken down for tea."
B: "Oh yes... put all the manual labour on me why don't you."
[She goes to the bottom of the stairs]
B: "Kenneth?... Kenneth?"
[As there is no reply, she goes upstairs. The ladder leading into the loft is down.
She climbs it].
B: "Ken! What are you doing up here?"
K: "Look at these Blanche! I found these old photo albums."
(At this point they look at old pictures and talk about them, again recalling memories from their time on the street. At some point, they are joined by Diedre who has come upstairs to see what is taking them so long. They remrmber when Ken fell through the loft).
(At the end of this scene, they climb down the ladder and go into the kitchen. On the cabinet is a picture of picture of Tracy holding a baby. Steve is behind Tracy with his
arms around her. They have become a couple.)

[Part Four]
[Jack comes around the corner of the salon holding some birthday balloons. Vera is clinging to his arm. They bump into Roy and Hayley.]
J: "Roy me lad!"
R: "Ah Jack. Many congratulations for your birthday.... [to Hayley] Hayley, did you bring the.."
H: "Oh yes - here you go [She hands Jack a small box and a card] It's nothing special."
J: "Ooh thank you! Will you join me for a pint?"
H: "We can't, sorry, we've got to get Patience to bed." (At this point the audience learns that Tracy and Steve have had a new baby).
[Vera bends over the pram].
V: "You deserved that child. You're wonderful parents, better than that Tracy could
ever dream of. I'm glad you got the baby back."
R: "Yes well we needn't worry about that anymore. She's gone now."
H: "Anyway, we must get off! Bye!"
[They leave. Jack and Vera sit down on the Maxine memorial bench.]
V: "Aww. They make such lovely parents. Eh, Jack... where do you think it went
wrong with our Terry?"
(Here, as before, they recount happy memories again, and some sad ones too. And then
we come to the grand finale.)
V: "Them were good times, Jack."
J: "Aye. That they were, V."
<pause>
V: "I love you, Jack"
J: "Aye, you too, V."
V: [Sings "Knowing I'm on the street where you live"]
J: [Joins in]
[They finish singing].
V: "Shall we go for a drink?"
J: "Aye. I quite fancy a pint".
[They walk across the dark, empty street to the Rovers Return. Jack pulls open the door for
Vera and she steps inside. He takes a quick look across the street, smiles, and then
enters the pub. For the brief moment that the door is open, there is a lot of noise,
symbolising the life and character of the pub. When the door is closed, it is silent
again. The camera pans up to the stars and fades into the credits].

Maybe the lad is a struggling script writer trying to get someone to buy his script - then again they could just rip it off here and use it for free. I wont comment on its content - I didnt bother to read it

I swear to god I've read that somewhere else before too. A good script but theres no reason as to why it's the last episode. Shouldn't there be some finality? Like the Street being bulldosed for new apartments? And people moving out and crying and then one last drink in the Rovers which is also being torn down.

Plus I think a final episode would have a really dramatic incident aswell. Mike Baldwin who is now 124 see his factory burned down for the 115th time! lol

I liked that script; simple but moving but you could make it really fantastical with several unlikely plotlines a la The Colby's. For example:

Les Battersby leaves the street to become head of the UN. He wins the Nobel peace prize for his work with the poor of Calcutta. Janice goes with him and ends up winning Miss World.

Tracy, Steve & Karen start up a commune in Arkansas and become Mormons, enabling Steve to have them both as full time wives.

Ken, Deidre and Blanche buy the whole street after Ken wins a million on 'Who wants to be a Millionaire'. They buy out the current owners of the Rovers Return and turn it into a gaybar, run by Roy and Hayley. Jack and Vera emigrate to Australia in disgust.

Final ever scene - Four minute warning is sounded. Nuclear war has been announced and Armageddon is nigh. All the residents huggle in the rovers to watch the Prime Minister in sinister tones regaling to the nation that the world is about to be destroyed. The identity of the PM? Dev.........

Some interesting ideas there! But Nuclear war?! :?

I didn't want to make it dramatic or shocking, or have the street demolished. I think if it were to end it should be left open and leave the viewer feeling cheated and empty - like the end of Night and Day! It wasn't particularly dramatic, it just went four years into the future and showed how everything had changed and I think it worked really well.

Corrie is dramatic at times, but the best bits are often the bits when it shows normal life and has some good humour in it too. I think a happy ending would be best.

...and no, I'm not an aspiring script writer! I just had an idea and wanted to write it.
