He was hyped and he started to believe it. He looked really pissed last night at the comments.

His problem is his performance ability which is diabolical. I honestly can't remember seeing a worse performer on the show. It's an area that sportsmen often struggle with and actors have a huge advantage over them.

From the point of view of physically doing the steps he's fine and has loads of potential. But performance is a difficult area to improve if it doesn't come naturally. How do you go from lump of lead caught in the headlights to a charmer wowing the crowd overnight? You just don't.

This was an open invitation for anyone knowledgeable about pro boxing to comment on a specific aspect not mentioned before. There was no assumption whatsoever any poster is or is not knowledgeable.

Whether last night was down to First Night or something else, well Second Night is here. Good luck to champion Joe and Kristina. I AM rooting for Joe and Kristina. I always root for Kristina.

as do i

i also do happen to know about boxing, the way joe boxes especially, and when he fights he maintains a "game face" so his opposition can't read anything from him.

me too

I am hoping it was just first night nerves that just built and built watching everyone else dance.

I personally would hate to perform last it must just be awful, getting more and more nervous - first or last must be a nightmare!!!!

I am just hoping that it was nerves and with the added pressure of being the bookies fav before he had danced a step it must have been tough

Come on Joe - you can do it - we are all behind you, you have a fantastic teacher in Kristina, just relax and most of all enjoy it

Thank you for your respected contribution.

By the same token professional poker players would not be best prepared for a colourful dance performance.

Joe should get drunk before he goes on. It liven him up no end.

I can't stand Chris Hollins but was very surprised by his dance ability. He's still an annoying twerp though.

Joe is one of those guys who worries what the "lads" will think of him.

Hi Kristina fans, we survive another week

Under the lights she looked like a condemned woman about to face the firing squad. I do not believe the media hype about a romance between these two. In their moment of crisis there was no eye contact, no holding hands. When at the last possible moment she was saved I almost cried.

Sad though that the legion of Matthew fans lost him at the first hurdle. I liked Martina tonight, to my surprise, I think she has nice instincts. In defeat she was gracious and kind.

I love Kristina but Mark Foster II is too much of a compliment for Joe. His dancing was diabolical.

I wonder if it was really a sympathy vote for kristina that kept him in!

Sympathy for Kristina? If they had any sympathy for Kristina I would put her out of her misery.

I wonder if Joe is carrying the baggage of boxing into ballroom. In the ring he needed to be wary of his opponent and keep a safe distance, with his defensive shield up at all times.

In ballroom he needs close body contact with a partner not an enemy, and needs to open up inviting an audience into his intimate dance experience. The man undeated in war now faced with an opposite role in peace.”

If he is supposed to be a successful boxer you would have expected that to mean he was fast on his feet and also lightfooted. He demonstrated the opposite both nights.

You were unduly optomistic there lol

Then why enter the competition?

I don't think you could say his dancing was diabolical because he didn't do any. He just stomped up and down at the same speed in both dances - he didn't seem to be in control of his arms or feet and he has no rhythm.

Disaaaarstrous and no doubt he will still be there for the quarter finals because he is Welsh (?????)

Phones are open this year for only 15 minutes. This limits the quantity of fanatical votes that can be rung in. The power of multiple voting is diminished this year.

Who would have thought he'd be worse than John Sergeant?

No not Mark Foster MkII..but Quentin Wilson MkII he showed hardly any dance moves and walked and stomped his way around the dancefloor the sooner he goes the better for the whole competition

The 21-year-old Cassius Clay was fast on his feet, but towards the end of his career even he slowed down and stood rooted to the canvas to slug it out. Boxing fans can tell us, probably it is safe to say boxers are fast with their arms and hands, jab jab jabbing for their lives. Some boxers I believe are man mountains with power and endurance rather than swift movement.

It was said in the papers during the weeks of optimism that he played the drums. I find that hard to believe.

LOL

Poor Kristina. She's a lovely dancer and personality but she's also rapidly getting a reputation for being lumbered with hopeless causes.
