Actually I got the impression that it was the arrival of the men with their information about who was popular and who was not that made Freddie totally lose his marbles. Bea just added personal anguish to the public damage that was already inevitable.

I've never understood why people blame Bea entirely for Freddie's downfall: I've seen posts saying that BB lost it for him by putting her in ON PURPOSE!

I tend to think that Freddie's popularity was starting to fade a bit anyway - As his confidence grew, you could see a more unpleasant side to him...and then Bea arrived. She exacerbated that side of him, and he was unfortunately too smitten with her to do a bit of that famous analysis on himself to realise it IMO.
