Moving broadband into another room
My router & modem are currently in the front room and Im on the pc wirelessly in the back, I phone up Virgin and asked how much it would be to install the broadband in the back room and they want £99!!
But I already have a V+ box connected in that back room, surely its only a matter of adding a cable to the box that on the wall already feeding the virgin + box? I dont want to be wireless/ |

You can run a cable from the box. Just need to get ethernet cable. But it's probably easier to just use wireless.

Go to Maplin's (other electrical stores are available), get yourself a splitter and two short fly-leads of the same type.
I think it's called Type F - Yes it is - [click]. No need to run any more cables. You can then connect your modem and STB in the back room to the splitter. Connect the splitter to the cable currently going to the STB. It's a simply Y arrangement. Two 1.5 metre [click] leads is all you'd need to connect to the STB and Modem. Total cost will be less than £15 at Maplin's. Shop around and you might find it cheaper still. If you only have one PC you can run a CAT5e cable from the modem to the PC, missing out your router completely. You can then put the router in a cupboard somewhere; flog it; give it away; or take it down the electrical waste department at your local dump. |

I dont really want to be wireless thanks for that info RobAnt, will try that ![]() fingers crossed, at least if it doesnt work ( which it should as you seem to know more than me) then at least it hasnt cost much! |

What PowerJC probably meant is that you COULD run an Ethernet (Cat5e with RJ45 connectors) from the modem to the computer. But as you have an STB in the same room as your computer, it is easier to move the modem.
In essence, because you already have the modem in circuit, the STB cannot act as a modem at the same time. In any case, the modem in the STB is not suitable for modern Internet speeds. |

you could use your eletrical sockets to move your signal elsewhere
put a lead from your modem/router in to one device in your plug socket, then plug another device in another plug socket in another room and run a cable from this to the pc I probably havent explained it well, but you can read about it here http://www.reestitmutton.co.uk/blog/...0calendar/1003 |
