Iphone coming to 3 soon
Thine Wonk

I have heard that it sounds like 3 will soon be selling the iphone 3g in the UK.

Whether officially or unofficially it seems that you will soon be able to get the iphone on 3 as well as T-mobile. I recently read that they were thinking of ignoring Apple and just shipping them in from their 4 partner network in Australia, Italy etc that all sell them officially. They may upset Apple a bit, but hey ho.

Of course it's possible that they have reached a deal with apple to do it officially. Either way it sounds very much like in a few weeks time the iphone will be available on 3.

Well this for starters, that's a US date on that article so it's from 2 weeks (ish) ago.

I've now been informed by 3 directly that in the next few weeks they will be able to offer iphones to their customers.

I should point out that I wasn't talking to them about upgrading and that there was no prospect of them selling me anything. I called up over a technical issue and spoke to their tech support who whilst speaking said that the network will be offering iphones in the next few weeks.

The only reason why it was brought up is because I'm using an unlocked iphone on 3 and I had to admit that to the tech support guy when he asked what handset I was using. He said that they have heard from quite a few customers doing the same and that they will be offering iphones direct from 3 in a few weeks anyway.

the Iphone3GS has been on the 3 network since it came out months ago here in Italy. In fact the Iphone is available on contract/PAYG on all the mobile networks here.

Im sure this was news from a good few weeks back...

If the deal does happen, its not for the 3Gs, but for the previous 3G model.

Yeah that's why I said 3g in the opening line. It's likely to only be the 3g.

The exlusive contract for the 3G comes to an end in October so there could well be iPhones onother networks.

I spoke to Orange yesterday and they said the iPhone will definitely not be coming to Orange until after the Orange/T-Mobile merger next year.

There's not much difference between the 3g and the 3GS to be honest though, the 3g may have been out for a while, but technology wise it's not 'old' and it's less expensive than the 3GS.

Also O2 will lose the exclusivity of the GS at some point anyway.
