The answer is yes, because a spoiler depends on whether you’ve seen it, not on when something airs.

I don’t really think DS should post spoilers about TV programmes in the banner at the top of the site.

I think what would be more suitable would be something like: “Strictly Come Dancing results announced! Click here for more.”

If I am the only person who sees this as a problem then perhaps this isn’t a problem. But I suspect I’m not.

The sort of people who have recorded SCD will not be here on this forum right now because they won’t want spoilers. So everyone on this thread is the type of person who doesn’t record TV shows. (I’m only here to point out the spoiler.)

But let me assure you that a great many people do record TV shows. (And don’t want to hear what happens until they’ve seen them.)

You go in the Doctor Who forum and post a spoiler and people get very cross.

Maybe the attitude towards spoilers is a bit more relaxed around here?”

Yes I record all the time , I recorded X factor , but dont expect the world to keep quiet till I choose to watch it

How about a banner saying Strictly Come Dancing result - click here for more?”

Once the show is over, you would expect to see the result. I would suggest you don't come onto the forum if you don't want to see the result. We had this with "Big Brother",but, people were putting out spoilers before the evictee was announced.

The majority of viewers will have been watching live. Why come on here if you don't want spoilers? They always reveal the results of reality shows as they happen/

I don't think it's reasonable to expect DS to wait until you find the time to watch your recording before they publish the results.

It's not a spoiler when it has already happened it's news!

I don’t expect the world to keep quiet about these results.

If I haven’t seen a programme like this yet, and I talk to my friends, I know I’m taking a risk of someone having seen it and possibly talking about it.

If it’s a particularly important result, I will actually tell my friends that I haven’t seen it yet, and not to discuss it with me (I usually do that with finals.)

But, perhaps naively, I didn’t expect such a result to be posted here at the top of an unrelated forum. I’ve never noticed such a result posted here before. (Possibly such a banner never flashed up about a programme I watch before?)

I think what makes this particularly unfortunate though is that this year (apparently) there is only one long show on a Saturday night, instead of the results being announced on a Sunday programme. This is something you simply couldn’t know unless you’d started watching the programme. And obviously I hadn’t.

Put yourself in my position. I didn’t even know Martina Hingis was going to be on the show this year, or that the results had been aired.

As it happens, I’m not a big Strictly Come Dancing fan. I watch it, but missing an episode (or having it spoilt) isn’t a big deal. It’s programmes like The Apprentice and American Idol (and anything fictional) that I couldn’t bear to have spoilt. But I’m not here because I’m annoyed about the spoiler; I made this post simply to bring it to people’s attention.

If I want entertainment news I’ll go to an entertainment news site. But I only come to DS for the forums. (Just to discuss Derren Brown, in this case.) I don’t read entertainment news sites, so as far as I was aware there was no way I could be exposed to such a spoiler.

I’ve never noticed spoilers at the top of the forums before. I’ve seen entertainment news there, but never spoilers of gameshows. I’ve never seen a Countdown spoiler up there, for example. I suppose SCD is just such a high-profile programme that its results constitutes “news”.

From now on I will know not to use DS when I have a high-profile gameshow recorded.

OH NO! Someone's just posted a thread saying 'That's cheered me up' - Now they've gone and given away the fact that it was a good show tonight.....

Where have you been hiding - the SCD format is back to how it originally was - in the sense of Saturday night results - it was also on last night and is on again next Friday and Saturday.
This format has been highly publicised over the TV, news and here on the forums. Thankfully the Beeb realised they made a boob with the bloomin sunday results show - apparently a format the X factor is now using when they go "live"
BTW if you are not a big SCD fan why are you making such a noise about it - I am v confused

The DS did put the Big Brother evictions up on a Banner at the top too so its not something new to SCD

Considering the amount of time it's taken Digital Spy to announce Strictly news before this series had started I'm amazed that it has appeared before Wednesday.

I don’t read entertainment news. I sometimes watch regular news programmes, but not programmes about entertainment.

If didn't want to know the result why on earth are you larking on Stricly come dancing forums? You've got nothing but yourself to blame.

I only came here after the spoiler flashed up when I was in a completely different forum talking about Derren Brown.

DS is one of the biggest entertainment sites on t'internet. And in being so will report news of an entertainment nature - never spoilers in any shape or form.

Just in case the OP hasn't quite caught up with reading all his/her newspapers for the last 2 months...

DS is an entertianment new site. It is in fact what it's primary function is.

I’m curious about that spoiler, but I won’t be reading that unless I get a clue about what is in there.

I don’t read newspapers. (I hate newspapers. They are garbage IMHO.)

I only knew Strictly Come Dancing was back on when I saw it in the TV listing this morning. But other than that I know nothing.

For example, I’m a massive fan of American Idol, but I have absolutely no idea what’s happened to any of the contestants. I could probably find out, but I don’t generally tend to read that kind of thing. I usually find out when they turn up in later years and Ryan Seacrest tells us how successful they’ve been. (Or if they enter the UK charts.)

My main source of information is wandering into forums occasionally, or making the effort to google something I’m interested in.

Funny, I was never really sure what the primary function was. At first I thought it was just a forum, then a technology site. But I had it in my mind that it was set up originally as a Big Brother site and then expanded to become more.

I will confess, I had no idea it was primarily an entertainment news site until today. If that is what it is.

This thread is becoming too much about me though. I’m not a typical person. But I’m quite sure there are a lot of typical people who record Strictly Come Dancing. Like people who go out on a Saturday night. Right?

I think you're making a reasonable point OP
Lizzy11268

I agree somewhat with OP but the problem is, you can't please everyone.
How long do you wait? 24 hours? Old news by then, a website like this needs to be on the ball or people will go elsewhere.
The "Spoiler - click here for more info" or some such thing, WOULD solve it and isnt a difficult thing to do.
"Breaking News" to do with tv/entertainment is always going to catch someone unaware.
Once it has been broadcast though, it is fair game surely....

I recorded the Wimbledon final this year as I was away...I made damn sure I didnt have any newspapers/radio/tv on until I had watched it, because I could hardly moan if it was talked about

I do see the problem, but its just one of those things we live with in the digital age
