I would be very surprised if the camera and sound crews weren't ready. They have a whole crew of people in the control room telling them what to do. The main problem with Bruce is that he won't wear an ear piece so he has no idea what's going on and therefore might think things aren't going right because he can't hear the instructions being given to them. I suspect they all ignore him!
And the BBC have an extremely good warm up guy - Stuart - who under normal circumstances would be there geeing up the audience during the show, but God forbid he should be allowed to take any of Bruce's limelight. He certainly gets the audience going before Bruce appears.
