Joe the new John
Elphinstone
20-09-2009
Hope Joe isn't the new John SergeantI will give him the benefit of the doubt but not for long.He needs to show improvement from week to week.Still too wooden.

Hopefully this year will not see more "talented" dancers go out in favour of more "popular" celebrities. This is after all a dance competition under the guise of light entertainment.

Why no contribution to charity this year....at least when the more awkward but popular dancers were kept in CIN got
a slice of the phone calls in the form of a donation

The difference IMO is that although JS was awful in his latin, some of his balroom was charming, especially the first dance to come away with me, Joe seems like a nice man but he's so wooden, so unless a Gethin miracle happens I don't see him as the new JS, just a plank boxing superstar who can't dance...poor Kristina, he really should have went tonight!

Add to which JS had the anti-judge vote and the new judging format should defuse the logic of that (although it may not follow any logic) JS had a small fanbase of older people who remembered him on TV. He was also mildly amusing in some routines because his routines were based on his hopelessness.

Joe has a big fan base , a regional one too and they are experienced in getting the votes out for him to win BBC competitions after Sports Personality. He does well doing nothing without even doing anything amusing or getting a sympathy vote or the anti-judge vote. If he's getting JS like percentages for being dire, they should be very worried how they will ever get rid of him.

I feel sorry for Christina, I am sure she will have been hoping for someone with some natural ability this time round. I hope for her sake as much as his that Joe uses his sporting mentality to work on his technique and improve his performance.

Actually, both have been partnered with Kristina, which leads to questions (IMHO) about her teaching skills and ability to choreograph a routine to show off her celeb partner to their best advantage.

I like Kristina, but believe that other pros (e.g. Lilia, Anton, Darren) have done better jobs in showcasing their 'challenged' partners.

All other things being equal maybe that might be true but both times she has been given a partner without any natural aptitude.
