One of the best bands ever created. Their songs are timeless.

Still got a magnificent soul voice, but he hasn't half released some ropy stuff since the magnificent Stars album in 1991.

I'm sure I don't know why Mick Hucknell gets stick - I didn't know that he did? I for one, think him and his band are great. I've seen him in Concert, and you really get your money's worth. He's a great 'live' singer, and there's not many of them to the dozen!

Some of SR's earlier songs were alright, but when those in the music industry who decide what is 'brilliant' each month with the aid of a blindfold and a pin picked the rather mediocre 'Stars', with each single resultantly being played to death despite being virtually indistinguishable from the last, it all completely unravelled.

His/their songs started off great (Money's Too Tight' and 'The Right Thing') .. and then he sort of dissolved into ballad/cover version land.

I don't think he improved things by getting narky about the fact that the Queen didn't know who he was .. saying that he was just the guy who had earned thousands (it might have been millions) for her country. Now, with the best will in the world the Queen has to meet hundreds of people every week .. quite a few of them have done far worthier things than Mr Hucknall and are probably more memorable.

He brags a lot about his own music and his own importance in music history .. and like Phil Collins .. it doesn't do him any favours.

As has been said, the early stuff was ok. Starts was MOR pap but it earned the guy a fortune and on the back of it he developed an ego the size of France.

He owns a rubbish bar in Manchester..or used to at least.

And he's a ginger!

he was a bit of a womaniser in his day and for a time that took presedence over his talent as a musician.

it did turn me off him but to be fair to mick i spose you can't believe all you read in the papers.

i saw him on a prog recently with his dad and he's from a really normal background and he sounded like a top bloke. think some of his popular songs have been played to death and overshadowed some of his less known stuff too.

i quite like him tbh - loved the pic of him and his little gir - absolute double of him. glad he's settled down.

I think Simply Red have had some good songs, admittedly they have done some not so good stuff as well... but I'd listen to them anyday before a lot of the artists that are in the charts today.

For me it was when he described HIMSELF as 'the best singer around'. THAT kind of arrogance makes me loathe people. He exudes arrogance and self-loving and those are qualities I cannot abide - especially in an entertainer.
If I felt that there was any 'tongue in cheek' element to it it would be different.

Have you heard his voice? He's one of the biggest artists of all time, the man's a musical genius.

Hardly a 'genius'. YOUR opinion maybe.
He has a good voice, I will grant him that much, but my point was that it is not for HIM to rate himself so highly.
As I said, it's the arrogance I do not like - he seems to have no humility in him whatsoever.
Besides, in what way exactly is he one of the 'biggest artists of all time'?
Red had maybe two big albums.. only ONE I can remember so I am just guessing there was another one. 'Biggest'? Not by any measure I know of
