I am okay, I spoke to my brother who knows of the situation, and I am okay now, my partners dad is good at winding people up, my partner is okay usually at dealing with it, well he is a lot more er "streetwise" than me, I should not have got wound up, silly me, thanks for asking.

Just wanted to say thanks to anyone who listened a few weeks back, i went back to work after three and a bit weeks off sick with stress, in all honesty i went back to early and couldn't cope and ended up back on sick for another two weeks, i'm now slowly beginning like my old self again but it's more of a struggle than i thought. anyway thanks again to anyone who listened and if i can ever repay the favour i'm here.

its a frequent mistake people don't realise with depression because people still do not talk about it some anti depressants can take up to 4 weeks to click in anytime you need to just pop in mostly someone is lurking x

thanks for that, i guess the main problem is because you can't see any symptoms you forget they are there, i've got the rest of this week off on sick and back at gp's on friday, to be honest the thought of going back to work makes me feel ill, i still feel alot better than i did but now and then feel low. deffinately not a quick illness to get over.

Hi I don't really know where to start but wanted some advice really. I've just found out from a relative that my mother has oesophageal cancer and will be going for surgery soon but the prognosis is not good. The problem I have is that we haven't spoken for 11 years. My relative asked that if I decide to make contact that I keep his name out of it as he doesn't want my mother to know he has told me.

I really don't know what to do for the best. I think if she wanted to see me she would have contacted me and I don't want to upset her when she's already going through a really bad time. I'm very resentful that she has never even met my daughter and that despite our falling out I would never have cut off contact with the kids but she has never sent a birthday card to the older two in all this time.

I feel that if I don't go to see her I will regret it but at the same time scared of being rejected again. I know that this sounds selfish but I can't help how I feel. I'm so confused at the moment and would appreciate some advice from people who don't know me. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

This is a horrible situation with no quick answer , I am so sorry about the whole thing. Would it be possible just to ask if she would like contact with you before you expose your daughter?

If you don't want contact I think cruise can help you, they specialise in grief councilling.

Thanks maxine, I've thought about maybe writing a letter with my phone number and address saying I'd like us to have contact but understand if she doesn't want that then I've left the ball in her court but I don't know if this is a cowards way out. It may give her time to think about it rather than me just turning up out of the blue.

Thanks for the advice about cruise, it hadn't crossed my mind but will maybe ring them tomorrow.

I would urge you to get in contact with her - it's the kind of regret you don't want hanging over you if you don't. Perhaps write to her and suggest a phone call as a start - or skype. Family problems are massive I know, but it's amazing what people can put to one side when health is at stake.

As someone who has recently separated from her husband, and due to his behaviour became estranged from my sister and other friends, I totally advise you to get in touch. I phoned my sister and she was so happy to hear from me, the years of bitterness melted away, ditto my friends. Your Mum needs people at this time. I think that the opening words could be ' Mum, I have heard that you are ill, I am really worried about you, can I do anything to help?

I work with patients who have cancer and they need people that they love around them - petty squabbles and even huge differences fade into insignificance when people are facing major treatments/surgery. This ill lady is still your Mum, you are still her child. I really do not think she will be concerned who told you, but will be so relieved that you know and that you really care. Please get in touch. You may regret it if you don't.

Not really coping well with split from husband (his decision, mainly my fault in my behaviour) - 1 year wedding anniversary on sunday.

constant feeling of dread when wake up and when go to sleep - actually, with me most of the time

have to collect his keys on wendnesday and check over the house we used to share so can hand it back to the landlord. (in order to get deposit back)

i did read your other thread you really need to sort yourself out first because unfortunately you may not be able to change his decision

Changed my job at work after I came back from holiday from a night shift job 10pm to 6am (7 on 7off) to a early shift job 7am to 3pm (usual monday to friday) at work from an internal vacancy only to find myself now with the manager from hell who picks over every little thing and has virtually threatened me with the sack even though I have only been in the position for 2 weeks - but been working at the company for a year and a half. From leaving a position where I felt fairly secure I am now in one where I feel so insecure and stressed that I broke down twice in ten day!.During a meeting with the manager today I broke down, changed shift to a middle one, but I am still not happy, feel I have made a big mistake. Wish I never left the night shift.

Deep down you know she will reject you. It may not be in a manner we, (on this forum) would understand, but you would recognise it for what it is. Unless you're prepared to beg her forgiveness for your part in the falling out (whether you were in the right or not) I wouldn't see her.

My own situation is similar to yours (except my mother isn't dying - AFAIK) and I've had more than a decade to think about the answer I've just given you.

My neice has been estranged from her mother (my sister) for over 15 years. Neice has since married and had 2 children who my sister has never seen. I tried to make contact but got nowhere and bumped into her in the supermarket about 8 weeks ago, pleasantries were passed but no mention of her mum. She has decided to sever contact with all her family and it's heartbreaking. She has her reasons and I must respect them. Sorry I haven't added any help to this
