I've bought an Ecotek PC Standby Saver to use with one of my PCs. However it relies on there being no power to the USB ports when the machine is in standby or off but on all 3 of my PCs that is not the case.
So I was wondering about using it to switch off my TV & Home Theatre system when I switch off the PVR. Sounds as if it might work.

Reckon it would , but don't you use the TV for other than hdr watching. DVD for example
The current set up is that the PVR turns itself on at 12 noon ready to watch the lunch time news and then stays on until it turns itself off at 1 a.m. The power to the TV & Home Theatre system is controlled by 2 Bye Bye standby plugs which I switch on at lunch time and off at bedtime. Between those times the TV is kept in standby when not in use.
I figure that using the Standby Saver linked to the PVR it would do the mains switching for me and I could use the Bye Bye plugs elsewhere.
Bob, yes I know the theory of making changes in the Bios but I couldn't get it to work. Instead I changed a jumper on the motherboard. That did the trick but at the same time took away the ability to put the PC to sleep because the power to the ports is cut in both off & sleep mode. So when you put the PC to sleep the Standby Saver switches off the mains power and the PC gets an unexpected shut down. Not a good idea. So basically the Standby Saver is surplus and I am looking for an alternative use for it.
It only cost £10 inc. delv on Amazon so if my plan to use it with the PVR works it's a cheap and convenient way of making power savings.
