Recording Failed. Reason Unlnown

I've had the odd failed recording before but this one was different (for me). I have Eggheads set on series link and been going through a few but today the ones left had the chapter icon in blue with a big tick through it. When opened a I got the dreaded failed recording on all of them. However, after shutting down and starting again all were OK with a picture chapter and opened.
I know many of us have had the problem with The Bill HD series link being lost because of the channel scan which ITV HD are not good at coping with and I have now decided that I will not bother with the scan in future. What's the point when we're not advised what channels they are. I had already set up The Bill on the trusted 9200.

I agree with you as I am sure everybody else here does that the updates that wipe-out the ITV HD schedules is a pain in the *** but as far as I am aware you cannot turn off auto updates.

I hope someone comes on now to tell us you can through the hidden menu.

Trying to avoid the updates by dismissing the yes or no to the updates on the HDR start up is a bit hit and miss because unless you pay up most attention when turning the HDR on it quickly decides for you and does the update anyway and if you say no then the HDR will ask again next time its turned on and go on doing so until it gets its way.

I had yet another failed recording on Sunday night, Bedazzled on BBC-2. Yet again it was an "unknown reason". I'm getting a bit fed up with this, and I've not yet had the box for a month.
I never had this many when I had Sky+ (not that I would go back to Sky, as I haven't missed it one bit).

You have my sympathy. As you will have seen on this forum there are a lot of issues outstanding and we're all hoping that the impending update will at least resolve some.

Since my original post I now have all the eggheads which were not watched yesterday back on the screen but shown as failed recordings again. Unfortunately this time rebooting did not "revive" them. Spoke to Humax and says it sounds like disc corruption and suggested formatting. Unfortunately this will clear everything so I'll wait and see. I did have to do a re-format a couple of months ago but cannot remember why. The disk has never been more than about 30% full.
I did ask Humax about the update but was told that all they have been advised is "soon". A bit like tomorrow--it never comes!
