Phone number transfer
The guy said it would start today, and in the morning, when I booted up my LG viewty (with an o2 number) it stated the usim was inactive, but I could still load my phone (just not make calls from it except emergency ones.
I checked my new sim card (on virgin) and it still has the new number (I wanted the number from o2). I was wondering how long it actually takes. Bare in mind I have contacted virgin and o2 and given them that PAC number etc etc so I was curious how long it takes to complete the process. At themoment, my virgin sim card has a new number which I don't want but it works fine etc. I got a mate to call the o2 number (which I do want) and it was diverted to a virgin voicemail. |

It takes up to 24 hours. When your old SIM stops you should turn off the handset, wait a few hours before trying the new SIM. By messing around you will delay the full port. You should turn off the handset with the new SIM. Wait a while and turn back on.

Yep turn off. Then you have to make a call and it has to be connected.
Tesco says "2 working days". Get the leaflet from the checkout. They also use the O2 network. Don't panic I am sure will be OK. |

Ok it has been 48 hours. Here is what has been completed:
My O2 sim has long been inactive. (It still allows me to load the phone and the number I want is still attached to the sim when I view it under phone settings.) I took the o2 sim card out, and whisked in the new virgin sim. When people call the o2 number, it goes to my virgin sim, no problems. When I text / call people, it lists as my o2 number, no problems. But rather annoyingly, when I look at phone settings, it doesn't show my o2 number but the number virgin gave me. So what do I do? |

So what do I do? The same thing happened to me switching from Orange to T-Mobile. Somewhere there will be an option for you to manually change the number stored on the phone as 'itself'. However, whether you do it or not, it will not affect the phone in any way. |

That's correct, you will only ever see the number that was originally on the SIM. That's just how it works, but as you've noticed it doesn't affect calling or texting in and out.
