Done a search but not found this.

Got my Foxsat HDR at the beginning of August, so has the latest software/firmware etc.
Apart from the usual niggles, I've come across a strange one.

The HDR is set to power-save standby, and connected to my Panasonic HD LCD TV via HDMI.

Been out, so the TV is off and the HDR in standby.
The HDR has woken up and started a scheduled recording.
Switch the TV on and it starts with it's built-in Freeview.
Power on the HDR using the remote.
The TV automatically switches to HDMI1, but no picture or sound, just a black screen.

Switch the HDR back off, TV goes back to Freeview, HDR back on, same again, black screen.

The HDR responds to all remote commands, the channel name changes on the front, and says "Guide" etc when the appropriate buttons are pressed, so it's not frozen, just not picture or sound output.

Can switch the TV off/on change channels/inputs but nothing.

Switch the HDR back off, wait till recording has finished & the HDR gone back to standby, and now everything works fine again when switched back on.

It's the only thing connected to the TV via HDMI, everything else is SCART.

Had this happen 3 times now, but it's not every time, it was okay the other day.
Anyone else come across this?

There are known HDMI handshake issue with some Tvs and also some HDMI ports on some TVs try swapping HDMI ports or... try changing channels on the HDR box thats known to clear the problem

In your Panasonic Screen menu is the TV set to AV or TV as "power on preference"

MENU - SETUP - POWER ON PREFERENCE _____ AV

As the TV is finding the built-in Freeview first, it sounds like it's set to TV - Try AV

Just as a matter of interest does it do the same if the HDR power save on standby is disabled ?

My Panny plasma has always done the same and its a known handshake problem with HDR and TV. Try this, press AV button on TV remote, select another HDMI port other than the one the HDR is connected to, leave for a couple of seconds, then re-select HDR HMI port and u should have a picture. Like u have said it only happens when he HDR is recording and in standby with just clock displayed.

My wife rang me today with same problem and I have to explain each time over phone, perhaps one day??

Should have also added 'bring hdr out of standby first' before pressing AV button.

@theShadowman my TV is set to AV as the power on preference.
I was switching the TV on first then the HDR, hence why Freeview came on.

I will try some things at the weekend and see how things progress.

I had this problem last night, and the only way I could clear it was to unplg the HDMI connector from the tv (Samsung, only 1 hdmi...), then replace it.
I then got picture but no sound, repeating the process sorted the problem - perhaps I should have left it longer the first time.

Happened to me and my Panasonic Plasma too on Saturday evening...

Think it's only happened twice so far...

So if you are watching Freeview and want to switch to the HDR, are you expected to switch the TV off, then HDR on, then TV on again?

That happened to me the very first time I plugged in the Humax to the Philips LCD TV... at first I thought I did something stupid... but I unplugged/re-plugged and it worked directly.

Have you tried pressing the resolution button on the remote?

By the way...beside your point, sorry, but I have just ordered a Sony TV...wondering if there are known handshake probs with the Sony. The Philips was only that once.

Edit:- Scart has some dominance issues but you can use a scart that has a certain pin missing then it won't automatically dominate what's on screen. Just to make sure that your freeview doesn't dominate and switch the TV back to a scart input.

No, that works fine, as long as the Humax isn't in standby & recording, then sometimes I get no picture or sound
In this case it makes no difference what order things are switched on, but it doesn't happen every time.

I try swap it to use the HDMI2 socket on the TV, but this doesn't support auto switching, not a huge problem for me, but doesn't help where the other half is concerned.

Haven't tried anything else as it hasn't happened since.

Exactly my point! Perhaps you want to watch BBC HD whilst something is recording. Suppose you want to set another recording. What are you meant to do? Whatever is happening, the HDR isn't partaking in any dialogue over HDMI to ensure media are displayed. The fault has to be with the HDR, cos I get exactly the same with my Yamaha amp and Toshiba TV.

No problem with my W series sony, It makes no difference if the hdmi input is selected before or after the hdr front on button is pressed whilst recording

If a problem existed with earlier models, it looks as if Sony have eliminated it with the W series - I haven't experienced anything of this kind with my W4500 and the HDR.
