ok this is a strange one.

in february we signed up to sky hd and a few weeks later we recieved a letter stating welcome to sky talk. obviously, confused called sky and complained to say we were unaware of this. then we contacted our current provider, talk talk who said it had been cancelled so we thought ok its moving to sky.

yesterday, the phoneline stopped working but broadband still working. we have a dailtone but cannot make or recieve calls. we decided to contact sky as we were paying them for sky talk. sky said the line rental is not with them and we only pay for calls which we didnt know. called talk talk and they said our contract was cancelled in march.

we called bt and they cannot say whos line we were using from march!!! i called ofcom and they said would contact bt wholesale but may not be able to give an answer.

in the meantime we have no landline and making numerous calls from a mobile and noone says we are with them.

any ideas ?!?!

try dialling 150 from your homephone and see what service department answer the call.
If sky answer you are with them, if BT answer you are with them.
Sounds like you have got what is called "soft dialtone"

so you're saying that when you signed up for sky, you had no idea that you were signing up for sky talk ?

and you didn't give your consent for the transfer to take place?

well we signed up to sky hd tv and not sure if that included sky talk. i completed the online form and if i did it was very sneaky as im pretty experienced in the online world.

no consent for the transfer if that includes another method.

Well with the greatest of respect, the online order form would have made it quite clear that you were getting sky talk as well as the television & broadband package.

Sky will only take over an active BT line if you move to them, or if you go with them as a new customer then they can install a completely new landline - they won't take a TalkTalk landline over.

Your only real resolution is to ring sky and see if you can book a new line installation - explain to them that you made a mistake in the application and didn't realise that you were still with TalkTalk.

If they won't do that, you're going to have to order a landline from BT.

When you were a Talk talk customer did you pay them for calls and line rental or just calls, if both then TT were your
provider, if just calls them probably BT were your line provider, both Sky and TT both can fully unbundle lines now and if you have been LLU'd either of of these companys (as well as BT) may be responsible for giving you dialtone
You say your broadband is still working if you log onto
www.speedtest.net, who does it report as your ISP, TT reports as OPAL and Sky as Easynet,
You wont have sky broadband on a TT line or TT broadband
on a sky line, so this may give you a pointer as to who's line it is anyway
I presume you pay BT or TT or Sky for your line rental
whoever it is is responsible for your dialtone so report your line faulty (NDT, no dialtone) to that company

we paid talk talk for calls and rental back in feb. im not sure why broadband is working but im with ukonline (easynet) on llu. get this, when i called talk talk they said you must be using mobile broadband lol

anyway, some news. called ofcom this morning and they said 100% talk talk cut the line off. called talk talk and they said the usual 'your contract ended in march' and said we would have to pay £60 to have the line enabled again as a new customer so that out of the question!! surely if i can speak to the right person its just a matter of turning it back on?

any ideas what to do next? or why my broandband is still working?

thanks

Actually sky will take a TalkTalk landline over, but not for free. I have done this.

If the isp is ukonline (easynet) then your line must be connected to skys broadband equipment, and as TT say you are not a customer with them, then I think sky are your telephony provider regardless of them saying you are only with them for calls,
your problem will be getting them to accept this and doing something about getting your telephony back....as you have dialtone then presumably someone in sky could lift the 'blocking' from your line and return it to service, even if sky havent fully unbundled you and your dialtone comes from BT wholesale its still upto sky to sort it out

thats why im confused, we still have a dialtone and bb works. according to ofcom who contacted bt wholesale the line was cutoff / blocked by talk talk. im not sure when i took bb with ukonline but i think it was when we were with bt for calls. im deffo on llu though.

how can we 'unblock' the line? when you call these companies up you just get someone reading from a script and its a nightmare.

cheers

As you have still got broadband you could use a voip phone as a stop gap.

You can down load something like Skype in minutes and use your computer or buy a dedicated voip phone for calls to landlines for a penny a minute on PAYG or buy a package with free calls which can include a number for incoming calls.

Not a long term solution but its a work around until someone sorts your phone out.

ADSL will work without a live PSTN service.
