I'm looking to improve my set up by getting a 7.1 amplifier along with a speaker package.

Anyone got any recommendations?

Budget would be approx £1k.

I already have a Panasonic HDTV and Blu-ray player.

Panasonic SA-BX500 AV amp would complement your system perfectly when coupled with speakers and sub of your choice. Unfortunately it's proving to be an elusive amp; I ordered one from here on 7th August and am still awaiting delivery: http://www.cheapelectricals.co.uk/cg...BX500#aSABX500

Panasonic audio isn't the best.

Try a Sony STR-DH800, it would wipe the floor with the panny

You could get that AND a decent set of speakers and a sub well under a grand.

Have a look here.

The Sony has got a few good reveiws too.

I'm using a set of ebay PinkBulls with mine.

Have a nose around Richer Sounds, either on line or preferably in person in store.

They do some decent kit at not too outrageous prices. And with real stores you can go play with the kit and more importantly listen to it. Something no on-line only store will ever be able to do. And when buying a sound system it is almost criminally insane to buy one unheard

With a budget this that I wouldn't be looking at anything below £400 for the amp.

Models from Onkyo and Denon would fit the bill nicely.

Onkyo TX-SR607 and Denon AVR1910.

For the speakers I would look at Q Acoustics 1010i, it comes as a 5.1 package but you can buy a stereo pair to make the system up to 7.1.

Don't go on recommendations entirely.

Go and audition as many 7.1 setups as you can. Richer Sounds and almost all quality hi-fi dealers will do this for you £1000 is a lot of money, you are entitled to get something that meets your needs not only in connectivity terms, but audio quality terms too.

We don't have your ears, so you must make sure that what you get isn't going to annoy the hell out of you by highlighting the wrong compromises. And all systems are limited by the compromises they make and so have a particular sound characteristic you may like, dislike or be ambivalent about.

There are a myriad of posts on this board asking this same question. And invariably the same answers are put forward, but at the end of the day the choice is, and must be, down to you.
