Well I can, as noted above.”

JLC was a previous host of the companion show, so I would say he is qualified to give an opinion when asked.

To me this just sounds like sour grapes as he dared raise his head above the parapet....as many people would like to do.....I feel Bruce himself knows he's past by his sell by date with all the jibes about being doddery etc....Bruce was great, however he should follow Wogan's example and leave "whilst in love"...a few guest appearances would be quite enough for him now....

I have to say I kind of agree with him, as much as I like Bruce and feel that he is part of the show, he can come across as being rude, particularly towards the end of a show. His jokes are appalling as well, and in particular I thought he was pretty mean calling Erin an old banger when he's so old he should be written off.

Also the time he referred to Jessie Wallace as JELLY Wallace...it strikes me he feels he can cross the line but that right is only reserved for him...He's no hero...he's not David or Richard Attenborough! He's a game show host who has has had a succesful career and should step down with dignity, before it becomes The Cringe Factor watching him.....

That was the worst joke of the evening.
Well off the mark and toe-curlingly embarrasing.
An example of how he just ain't funny any more.

That was horrendously misjudged. Joke or no joke... I found it very uncomfortable.

Until this year I've always defended Bruce, but it is starting to get to the point where it just isn't funny any more.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that joke, I thought it was really mean at the time.
And people are right, he just isn't funny anymore, his jokes are only laughed at out of politeness. Sometimes he's just embarassing.

It reminds me of something my 90yr old Nan says " I can say what I like at my age"
Being old doesn't mean you should get away with insulting people though.

I think JLC was brave to speak out, but think he's just saying aloud what a lot of people are thinking, including me.

He does seem to get the proper hump when people don't laugh at his dreadful jokes - I don't really get why, he doesn't write it. Bruce seems to feel a sense of entitlement when it comes to his national treasure crown, which is probably the only thing I really dislike about him.

Perhaps the Queen sees through this and never consider giving him knighthood.

Then again, even Mick Jagger and Elton John got one!

I enjoy his lack of knighthood immensely.

JLC voiced what the majority are thinking,Bruce was uncomfortable viewing, and past his sell by date.
He's been a great entertainer over the years, but there's a very true saying..."Quit while you're ahead"..Bow out with some dignity and credibility Bruce ,and what were the BBC thinking of signing him up for a 2 year contract

Nothing to do with age. You would find exactly the same sense of humour but harder on Jonathan Ross or with Graham Noton presenting the show. Compared to the comments thrown out every week on the X factor, the comments on SCD are mild. Compared to Alan Sugar on the Apprentice or some of the comments on Andrew Lloyd Webber's shows joking about old bangers is positively positive. As for the jokes, I doubt if Brucie writes them and if some don't work that may just tell you why the BBC has so few comedy shows that work. The jokes would stay if Brucie didn't.

I don't particularly hate him, but he does seem a bit of an anachronism.

Presenting styles have moved on, he seems to think he's still presenting The Generation Game. He even uses the same old gag of making a sarcastic note on a piece of paper out loud.
Not funny anymore.

Question is, who would make a good replacement?

I really worry that Bruce is going to do a Tommy Cooper and die right there on the strictly stage while it is going out live. Noone wants that to happen. Why doesn't he just enjoy a nice retirement?

I'm assuming he actually died some considerable time ago, and they've rewired him. So don't hold your breath...

Just for prespective...

This would be the Justin Lee Collins who is promoting his new book "Good Times" everywhere at the moment? I'm sure his publicist would be gutted that he's getting column inches in all the nationals and online. Fancy that.

No news here (again). Move along.

That is the question of course. Somebody else a while back suggested Lionel Blair - a good dancer himself but at 78 he's a tad too old. What about Jeff Stelling who does Countdown now ? He's 54, smart, sporty, cracks jokes and likes Strictly he says. Anyone else got any suggestions ?

Jeff Stelling should be on the show then - he'd be great value! Have they just never asked him because he works for C4?

Hmm, somebody who likes to have a bit of a laugh, is capable of presenting live TV, appealing to viewers of all ages and has a pedigree that won't look poor after Bruce's - it's a tall order. (Dancing ability is a totally optional extra).

I would probably offer the job to someone like Paul O'Grady, but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be able to resist being ruder than is polite to the celebrities involved. Other than that he'd be great - assured, funny, warm and with just the right degree of camp for a show like SCD

I totally agree. I feel that Bruce after this series should retire. The jokes are not funny it is starting to get cringe worthy especially when he is bumbling his way through the script. The show needs another presenter who can do the job properly. How about bringing the presenter from American Version of the show what I have seen he seems to be good at it or give it to Terry Wogan. Normally I sit and watch it, but this series I just haven't bothered, maybe of the changes, maybe of Brucie, but I just don't seemed to bothered about it this time around.

That's exactly how we feel!

I used to love watching the programme. We'd always make sure that the wine was suitably chilled, light the candles, snuggle up, and enjoy it.

For us, Bruce killed the pleasure last year. We'd never been fans, but had tolerated him. Sadly, we were watching with some friends, and one of his homophobic remarks really upset a (gay) friend who had just gone through a break-up. The John Sergeant debacle followed, with BF referring to a 'situation' and just being horrid, so we stopped watching altogether.

I do wish that we could go back to the old magic, but fear that is has gone for good.
