iPhone PAYG & Simplicity Contract...?
Waffles
24-09-2009
hello!

Does anyone with expert knowledge on all things iPhoney have any idea if there is a problem with buying a PAYG iPhone 3GS from apple (4% quidco ), and then the O2 Simplicity £19.58 contract from 02 (£100 quidco ).

Pop it in and away i go?

Thanks!!

Okay thanks!

The simplicity deal is really good!! 1600 texts, 800 minutes, unlimited data, £100 quidco, £10 02 Money Card...

Thought about this as my iPhone contract ends in January, I asked in a O2 store & they said its no problem you can do it. However its unlimited browsing & not data... minor difference according to O2. While you can use Safari to look at the web, you will be charged to use apps like the Facebook & Tweetdeck. Not sure about Mail but as this downloads & doesn't browse I would assume you'd be charged for that as well. A bit confusing but worth noting before you jump in.

I only spoke to one person in the store, not sure what access points the iPhone uses etc.

the iphone lets you define 3 access points: 1 for data, 1 for MMS and 1 for visual voicemail.

i dont think they'll be able to tell if its safari or an app requesting the data through the access point. I reckon youve been misinformed.

The person in store was utterly incompetent then. Whether it's browsing, facebook, email, maps, app store etc it all uses O2's data network. It's unlimited data you get. It all goes through the same AP.

Remember that while the Simplicity deal has "Unlimited Data". There is actually a fair use policy.

I cannot remember what the limit is but there is one.

Check your small print.

there is no longer a "fair use policy" but rather an excessive use policy.

What this means is, that if you only use your handset to surf the internet only, and don't use it as a modem or skype calls etc, then you are fine, you can use as much as you want.

There are no figures in their small print at all anymore.

You tell the poor people who have come crying into the Shop with Huuuuge bills that!

If someone were to use their unlimited data excessively then O2 wouldn't just start charging them. They'd contact them about their usage first. The simplicity terms and conditions don't say they can start charging people.
