Which HDD/DVD PVR? - Any help appreciated
Hi,
I've currently got a Hitachi HDD/DVD recorder (analogue tuner only), and I'm aware that once the digital switchover happens it's gonna be fairly useless. As a result I'm thinking of flogging it on ebay and and getting a Freeview PVR, but I'm confused by everything on offer. I'd really like some recommendations, if anyone could help. I'm not sure if I should look for a DVD recorder with PVR all-in-one, or two separate units. Or if I should keep my Hitachi and just treat it as a DVD recorder. Here's what I'd like to be able to do: * Dual Freeview tuner - I don't have a Freeview telly, so would like to be able to use this without havng to have a separate Freeview box for the telly. * Play DivX files from maybe a memory card or USB key * Archive programs occasionally to DVD * Needs to simple to use with nice looking menus - My wife doesn't like complicated gadgets. * Don't have HD TV, so not too bothered about HDMI output. * Maximum budget is around the £200 mark. If anyone could offer any advice, I'd really appreciate it. |

If you are happy with the record features of your DVDR (other than no Freeview) then I would advise you to get a dual channel PVR rather than another DVDR, this will be cheaper and better (better both in terms of ease of use and dual channel capability).
You do say occasional blowing to DVD so that means the separate unit isn't really a problem the only thing that might be lacking is DivX/memory card features if your current DVDR doesn't support them. |

So, are there any dual channel PVRs that have USB or memory card sockets that you can play DivX files from?
I haven't seen any, but I was just wondering if they exist. |

Oh no, I 've just realise that there is an actual "Personal Video Recorders" forum under Media and Digital TV Forums > Terrestrial.
Apologies for posting this in the wrong place. Am I able to move this thread myself? |

dont flog it, or chuck it out
if its good, you can put a freeview box signal, or a sky box signal into it - or even a hdd pvr signal, cause they wont have dvd burners ok you lose the timing mechanisms, but you still have a nice hdd recorder with disk burning facilities why throw that away? -------- i have a panasonic and sony hdd recorder - now im used to thme, i prefer to interface of the sony but i dont think there are any hdd recorders with twin tuners |
