That's probably true. It's also probably pointless. Essentially anyone that is 'ready' to make use of iPlayer functionality will already be using the PC version. And I doubt many people will be in a hurry to run X feet of cabling round to their TV to use iPlayer on a Freesat box.

It might gain a bit more traction if the stb had a built in (or add on) wireless module.

And boy doesn't he keep doing it over and over and over and over again.


My router is behind my TV so I'm ok otherwise you could use a wireless bridge like people did with the original xbox.

The recommendation from Humax is to use the AV versions of Homeplugs.

I'd second that, before I ran real cable, I used the Netgear ones all around the house. Better than wireless, not as good as a Gb switch!

I have no problem with criticism of products, I have time and again expressed my sympathy for those who have personal issues with the way the products work. I have long accepted that some people have issues with some design decisions and we are working to improve that.

But my problem is that Tern seems to take absolute delight in taking every opportunity to attack me, Humax, the product and anyone who suggests the issue is not as serious as others might imply. Of course he hides behind the fact that he says he likes the product. But in his argumentative state he seems to be unable to accept that despite his protestations: things will move at the pace they are pre-determined to move at. So I feel I cannot speak freely on this board without being pounced upon and having to yet again defend myself to people who have been told over and again the state of play.

This is why I am perhaps not as helpful and constructive as I have previously been and why I don't care as much as I once did. And even if I make a statement about something being looked at I am assumed to be lying because we have so far been unable to release the version of software that we suggested would be released earlier in the year. Then when a new thread starts I can quickly assume it will be hijacked for the purposes of distasteful degrees lambasting. For economic and testing reasons we have lumped things together in one big update that is now better than anything we previously planned, but you don't have to believe that because the pessimists will just assume I am attempting to deceive.

Tern will now proceed to explain how it is his right to complain every hour of every day and how I am just trying to suppress those who wish to complain. He will explain how unintelligible my statement is and that I am being unreasonable. He may even report this posting as being an attack on his person. Constructive debate is no longer possible as his mind is fixed and in-spite of whatever he says no one at Humax can realistically change that.

But I accept this to be the new truth and think that it is the cost of doing business on this forum now. Tern is never wrong, he has the right to express his opinion constantly and he clearly has a great deal of free time on his hands to construct such careful argument and rhetoric. As he is always right and I am always lying, I shall leave him to determine the course of history going forward. It is just a shame that real information can so easily get so lost in the noise.

Please note all information about software releases will be handled by the service manager going forward and will be published almost exclusively on our website. This will aid simplicity at the expense of detail and quality through constructive discussion.

To those who have sympathy: I wouldn't get into any arguments about it any more, there isn't much point.

And really, I doubt there are many people who would get away with making a long post just to complain about another member.

You've clearly accused me of lying when I say I like the product but this is not the case.

To set the record straight.

1) I do not think that you or any other Humax employee have ever lied - or even bent the truth - on this forum.

2) I accept the fact that you are trying to be as helpful as you can.

3) I do like the product. I have stated several times that even if there was never another update I would not feel I had made a bad purchase.

4) I have on many occasions stood up for Humax when they have been unfairly criticised. Mainly by explaining why some problems might be particularly intractable.

5) The reason there seem to be so many anti-Humax posts is that there are posters who make it their business to post attacking or ridiculing those who complain about Humax. (An entire thread started by such a person has been removed today.)

These people turn what would be a simple one post gripe into a entire sub thread of criticism.

It takes two to make an argument.

I'm not sure whether this means that Bob won't be posting on here again or not. If it does then it would be a shame but quite understandable as his position has become untenable not because of Tern or any other forum member but because what he has been telling us or at least hinting at since spring simply has not happened.

Now I fully accept that when he made those statements / hints they were correct but then someone higher up the ladder at Humax changed their mind and decided to postpone the small fixes and roll them up into a big one which will arrive someday - probably.

As a loyal customer since the 9200 came out I think that it was a poor decision and I am slightly annoyed that my decision to buy a second HDR and recommend them to friends was based on Bob's statements / hints that fixes for the problems with the box were just around the corner.

I wonder how many others came to the forum and read that the teething troubles were in the process of being fixed before going out and spending their £300. There are probably also some who would have taken their new boxes back had it not been for Bob's re-assurances.

It's probably a bit late to go for a refund now and I don't think that telling the counter staff at Curry's that Bob from Humax says that anyone not happy with their HDR should take it back, will get a favourable response.

From the compay's point of view you could say that Bob has done a good job but personally I'm not so sure.

Never the less I'll say: "Cheers Bob I'm sure you meant well".

If the likes of Tern get their way all the time the forum will eventually lose some great "speakers" To keep this forum going we need to keep it balanced and honest.

Driving the good ones away will spoil it for the rest.

If Bob is feeling hard done by that is as a direct result of the performance of Humax as regards correcting the bugs in the PVR. Trying to make me, or anyone else who has criticised Humax the scapegoat for their not feeling able to post here anymore is ridiculous.

If Bob or anyone else feels that any poster has overstepped the mark in terms of lack of respect to any other poster, they should press the alert button so the mods know. That way overly antagonistic sub-threads are nipped in the bud.

Coming here and whining that you're leaving because someone has hurt your feeling is just pathetic and is obviously designed to try and stem the criticism.

I originally signed up to digital spy as a means to thank Humax for an excellent job. Since then, issues have been identified with the PVR, that I readily accept that you're taking the necesary time to fix. (I work in the Software Industry and understand the various development drivers.)

I think you're right to walk away, some contributions have moved well beyond fair comment. There is a compelling case for substantial moderation, on this forum. Otherwise, the value of the forum for any form of constructive comment, or debate, will be nil.

I'll keep an eye on the Humax website and I wish you very well for the future.

Anyone who walks away because someone will not capitulate to moral blackmail is not 'a good one', they are pathetic. They are perfectly able to use the 'ignore poster' feature if they are so fragile they can't bear to see a company criticised.

It's clear that what Bob is trying to do is get a lot of gullible fools to start wailing and gnashing their teeth in the hope that DS will take some action to stem criticism of Humax.

I sincerely hope that DS are bigger than that.

If companies can stifle criticism by having posters acting like cry-babies then the whole technical side of the site will become a far less useful resource.

I agree that some of the comments have been excessive. I think that some of mine are a bit harsh but I try not to actually attack Humax - I just make it clear that I'm not happy with the product. Tern's...yeah. Tbh intentionally or not (s)he does cross a line. It's one thing to say that a given product has faults but it's another to specifically attack the company and its staff. I have commented that Humax are 'the best of a bad bunch' but that's about as far I hope I have ever gone.
