External audio options

Hi,

I have a tv with a headphone out (3.5mm jack) and optical out but no component audio out.

I don't have a surround sound setup at the moment so when I want it hooked up to my amp I have it connected to the headphone out via a succession of leads and connectors.

e.g 3.5 > 6.35 > splitter > audio lead
just because the were the bits & bobs in my cupboard that I cobbled together to get it hooked up.
I don't like it because there are 3 connectors together hanging out of the socket and it doesn't look safe and could easily be knocked and pulled about.

I'm just wondering whether there would be any advantage in using a Scart connector with Audio breakout. Would there be any sound improvment?

Otherwise I can get a right angle jack and a compenent audio to stereo 3.5 jack to to clean up the cables a bit.

Thanks

You could use a SCART adapter or buy a more appropriate lead to continue using the headphone output.

The big advantage of the headphone out is that it automatically cuts off the TV's speakers and you can use the TV remote to set the volume. neither of which will happen if you use SCART.

And there probably isn't going to be anything in it from a sound quality point of view.

There is an option in the settings for Speaker/Headphone link, which maybe what you are referring to.

With the headphone out connected the TV speakers still work, which is how I want it. It is connected to an external amp & speakers where I can set the volume for those. So I can set the TV and amp independently to get the right balance.

The last TV had it's own surround sound system built in so i'm just consolodating until I can get a new one.
