I had one of those for my stereo some years back. I only had it for the pretty jumping lights! If your system is working ok you shouldn't need to go adjusting things, unless you have partial hearing loss and need to make up for it?
If you buy a recent model multi-channel receiver, they come with auto calibration and a mic to set it all up correctly. I don't think it would make much difference to me on stereo.

It doesn't set the frequency characteristics, only the relative volumes and delays for your specific seating location.
