What I thought was interesting is that while the camera was moving from the Tesspit to the judges, you can hear somebody saying "a**hole!". I rewound the recording to see if I had misheard, but no, it was quite clearly there... Not sure who it was though, whether Brendan had kept swearing or if it was somebody else, and if so I wonder if the insult was meant to be for Brendan or Craig...

I agree - his comments to her were just plain nasty.

IMO the criticism that the judges give the dancers should help them to improve and there is a far better way to point out weakness and at the same time give some positive advice on how to correct it.

It would have helped if Craig had given Jo some constructive criticism not just negative comments

Well he told her not to move and after watching the group dance with Jo in it he said to Brendan "Good luck". I think the message he's getting across is he thinks it's hopeless.

And me...But Brendan can do no wrong in my eyes, I am not physically attracted to him but I think he is a great dancer with a strong character/personality....Well that Craig...everytime I look at him I remember how he started off as a drag queen....then his caustic comments in that false voice....oh yuck!”

why is this relevant?

... Got it in One, Shazzyfizz ! ...

But in all honesty ... 90% of the time anyway ? ... the sparring and antipodean rivalry is usually friendly & not intended to be offensive or personal ... ... sometimes these two do step over the line tho' !!

But in saying that & in both Craig & Brendan's defence ... for rating & viewer audience purposes ... I'm sure the Beeb is quite happy to allow/encourage their little sparring matches for the sake of ? viewer entertainment ? ... they probably hope it will add to the ratings ?? ...

In Brendan's defence, even tho I don't condone him getting personal, I am surprised this doesn't happen more often between him & Craig !
Don't know how many of you get to watch the NZ version ? ... Dancing with the Stars ... where they are both judges but Craig dishes out to Brendan quite regularly & with a lot more viciousness, what Brendan gave him this weekend !!! He has no respect for Brendan's opinions or as a judge & is never backward in coming forward in rubbishing him as a judge, a dancer or personally on the live shows here !!!

I like Craig as a judge ... he is a qualified professional with the experience to back up his judgements ... but I do feel some of his criticsms are totally unconstructive, cruel, unkind & un-necessary !! ...

... How embarrassed and gutted must Jo have felt to have him say the best part of her dance was "when she was standing still " ?? UNKIND and NOT Necessary !!!

I'm sorry but the phrase if you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen applies to slated celebs. There aren't many ways to tell someone they're pants nicely and I'm afriad the entertainment aspect comes into it - the judges have to entertain as well as inform.

I suppose I'm biased as I find Jo a bit irritating but although I do think Brendan defending her is very sweet he was out of line in having a go at Craig. I do think there's a clash of personalities between Craig and Brendan and it possibly gets in the way of both of them seeing things straight - they both seem to have been unnecessarily catty about each other on one than one occasion.

It is possible to be witty and entertaining without totally destroying the confidence of someone who isn't a celebrity as such, who has never been on stage or TV before and who he knows was paralysed with nerves before going on. After all, it was the first week.

I don't know Jo or anything about her but in all fairness there are surely kinder less callous ways of commenting on poor performance ?? .... or better still .... say very little or nothing at all ??

You're right, Kat ... they have a history ( see previous post )

and even tho' I like them both ... for different reasons ... I do feel very sorry for & more in support of Brendan on this issue !!

As previously stated ... Craig's treatment of Brendan on the NZ show is sometimes quite callous, belittling & very demeaning as a professional in his own right !

It's almost like Craigs' attitude says ... " I'm the most qualified ? / competent ? / senior ? judge on this panel, & your opinion / comments are not relevant unless I say so !!"

Suppose like the BBC, TV1NZ also allows / encourages this for viewer entertainment / rating / popularity purposes ?? .... Sad !

Brendan is far more qualified to judge ballroom dancing than Craig will ever be.

Craig may have years of experience but he is/ was just a dancer - he's got absolutely NO ballroom credentials at all, so why he thinks he's better qualified than Brendan to judge DWTS in NZ is beyond me.

After all Brendan is only a professional BALLROOM dancer with several Championships under his belt - what does he know about ballroom dancing??.

Yes Jo is utter crap and fully deserved to be sent home on Saturday, but she was clearly upset and Craig's comments were his usual nasty personal put downs, not constructive in any way!

I came across as a bit strong I'll admit it and Craig could have brought some constructive to the critism although I think Jo is probably a bit of a dead loss dancing wise. However she was clearly vulnerable and needed some positive feedback and her rhumba was better than her tango although still not great. It's ok to have a pop at sportsman like Dunwoody who can take it but yeah shooting down Jo was a bit harsh. However I think I got a bit narked by the saint Brendan stick of his fans - yes it's lovely he's been so supportive but the guy is not without an ego and part of his comments were motived by his dislike of Craig IMO as well as his protectiveness towards Jo.

Craig should have given her some suggestions about countering nerves.
He was very unkind. Very.
On the other hand Brendan is a spoiled brat. I don't suppose Jo feels happy about Bren doing his flouncy thing. Can't he learn a bit of dignity?

Kat I wasn't having a pop at you - more at all the posters who keep going on about how qualified the jusges (bar Alesha) are and how Craig is the best of them.

He has proved many times that his in depth knowledge of BALLROOM dancing is no more than many people on the forums. Being a West End hoofer/ choreographer doesn't qualify ANYBODY to judge ballroom dancing.

How many people had actually ever heard of Craig, Len or Bruno before Strictly hit our screens? The only judge with a public profile beforehand was Arlene, and that mainly for her work with Hot Gossip. Craig seems to think he's the most knowledgeable person on the panel these days which is a joke when you consider that he is now sitting next to a fully qualifed ballroom dancing judge who really DOES know his heel leads from his promenade runs.

FWIW, I can't stand Brendan or his ego, but I do like the way he stands up for his celebs and has a pop back at Craig when he makes some of his nasty less constructive comments to them.

Does Craig ever suggest how a celeb can improve or does he just point out their flaws and good parts ?

And Craigs insistence in calling everyone " Dahling "is so patronising and ponsy ,I would want to slap him .

Brendan doesn't dislike Craig. He has always said he is a lovely guy when not on SCD and he has nothing against him personally. Craig, however, seems to carry his aminosity towards Brendan over into life away from the show. He seems to be the only one though, the celebrities from the past shows have always spoken highly of Brendan and the professional dancers seem to all get on well and support each other in their other ventures.
