Poll - Alesha as judge, yes? no?
I like Alesha and loved her dancing with Matt C, my objection to her as a judge has nothing to do with her personally.
I am not sorry that Arlene has gone, she was getting to be non-productive with her lusting and alliterations. I would have liked to see a professional dancer/judge in her place for the following reasons.
I watch SCD because I enjoy dance and dancing and while I am aware that it is an entertainment show I like to learn something along the way, the celebs have someone to teach them how to perform and what it's like to be in the show and they are called their professional partner they don't need a judge on their side.
I would like to be informed as to what is going wrong with the dance in an appropriate manner, as much as I like Craig and prefer his marking, it was a disaarster dahling does not cut it. Watching Camilla discuss the couples on ITT she made a couple of succinct points about various couples posture and technique that made so much sense.
I sometimes watch the couples dancing and think, yes it's nice but something is wrong here and I think they and we deserve to know what it is and how to correct.
Apologies for this being long and boring, but I didn't want to put down a few words as an anti-Alesha rant because I'm not, I just find it all a bit frustrating really.

Don't apologise. You make a lot of sensible points.

Don't apologise for such a rational post!
The only thing I would say about Camilla (or any pro or judge) on ITT is that she had time to prepare her comments for the show and wouldn't have had a 10 second limit to make them like the judges on the live show. Just thought I'd mention this.

Alesha also has time to prepare if, as has been reported, she's using rehearsals for that purpose.
...
Anyway, I see that "bad idea" is still ahead and, indeed, has over 50%.
I haven't voted, because I don't have a strong opinion about it. At least not yet.
She's getting there, so by 'bout Christmas she'll be sprouting out ensightful comments in her sleep.
Who knows, she may even go on a journey
metaphorical or course, I don't want any smart a*** pointing out she's on tour during the series aswell

Couldn't have put it better myself.

But by your own admission you are getting all the technical info you need on ITT from Camilla, you are not getting it from Craig as a judge, and you get to see the dancers in training on Video
So surely that is enough to work out what went wrong, the camera angles on the live show very rarely focus on the feet for example, so even if the judge does try to explain it or comment, you can not see it back in the live show format, if it is a valid point then invariably it comes up on ITT.
You might not get frustrated if you sat back and watched the show and then analyzed it later on ITT

“Strictly Come Dancing judge Alesha Dixon is to write her life story once she finishes the latest series of the show.
The singer, who has been heavily criticised since she took over from Arlene Phillips, plans at least one chapter about her experience on the BBC programme, which she won two years ago.
.....
‘She will be lifting the lid on the breakdown of her marriage and all the secrets of Strictly.’”
I Like Alesha but think its a bad idea she was made a judge, and I cringe when she gives technical advice and so does Craig if you watch him closely
I like Alesha, but this is the wrong job and the wrong programme for her. She would be a welcome addition to the new programme the BBC intends to make about dancing - So You Think You Can Dance? - with ordinary members of the public showing what they can do. Her cheery nature and girl band background would make her a valid choice, IMO.
But although her comments have improved on SCD, her grammar is shocking for a lady in her 30's - and when you hear Karen Harding giving her views on ITT - professional, accurate and in proper English - it makes Alesha look all the worse.
She would have been a good presenter for the show, I think.
She just got the wrong job
I just can't take her comments seriously. In fact it is embarrassing putting someone poorly qualified to judge in that position. If the BBC didn't want Arlene, surely they could have found someone with experience and gravitas.
I was willing to give her a chance but after her arrogant performance on the first episode of ITT and now her sometimes rather catty comments I'm very much in the anti Alesha camp. And, just to show she's not the only one who can make catty comments, was it me or did she forget to put her make up on in week three? She looked strange. She was almost glowing and not in a good way.
The Beeb were right to get rid of Arlene and previous posters in this thread have given us all the reasons why, and there were plenty. But to replace her with Alesha seemed a bold move which now seems like a stupid move. Personally, I'm waiting to see how Darcy Bussell fares cuz Strictly doesnt need five judges so if they decide to keep Darcy then that means one of the present judges will not be coming back next year.
From DS news:
They'd started slagging me off before the show had even started.
She [Alesha] added: "What does that say about the perception of the younger generation? That actually because you're below a certain age, you're not going to have any intelligence or an opinion? I find that really bizarre.
Not as bizarre as getting fired for being above a certain age.
