Is this the smug celeb this year then

Most people who go into showbusiness are arrogant and over confident, even if they pretend to be humble etc. Anyone who thinks they can stand up and act, sing, dance before millions of people must be confident for all their protests of being nervous and terrified. If it is that terrifying than do not agree to appear in Strictly, come on, they all know by now what is expected. I know I will get eated alive for saying this but when I see pics of Natalie thin (during the time of the DVD Slimming thingy) I thought she looked fabulous, her face looked more attractive and she was a knockout and now she seems EVEN bigger than when she started her diet plan. Sorry but Nat is not a size 16 as is painfully obviously when she dances. I like her but am sad for her she could not get her eating under control as she looks fantastic thinner!!!

She wasn't fantastic but stated that she should have got more points. I don't know, something doesn't sit right anymore.”

What on earth is wrong with setting yourself a high target and trying to improve and reach it?

What on earth is wrong with self-confidence?

Do we really want to live in a society where no one bothers to better themselves?

It's not seen as an asset especially in women.

There's nothing wrong with it at all, it's just her remarks after her tango score do seem to have put peoples' (including my own) backs up - almost demanding a higher score because she's put '110%' in - as if no one else did. Now this may well have not been how she meant it, and I'd imagine coming down from the adrenaline rush of performing she maybe wasn't thinking too much about how these words could be percieved - but unfortunately they didn't leave a great first impression.

I like Natalie and was looking forward to her dances. I think, by saying she wanted a higher score, she was just being honest! If any of the other celebs were honest, they too probably hoped for higher scores but just didnt voice it!

As for her saying she wants to win...they all do! Again, she's just being honest from the start. You know what celebs are like. Their egos are HUGE and I doubt there is any celebs currently dancing who do not want to win.

And to the posters who are commenting on her size...so what? No one is blasting Lynda Bellingham but perhaps because she is older they assume that she has the "right" to be on a the larger size. But because Nathalie is young everyone is saying she should be thin!

I say give her a break!

She comes accross to me as quite smug.

I never liked her in EE either.

Ive commented on this thread before and Im not a fan of Natalie's but I wish people would stop going on about her weight. Its getting ridiculous. Can we not just focus on dancing please?

I liked her tango, but didn't think it deserved more than 6's. I liked her cha cha less.

I actually think her face looks nicer now than when she was very slim, it appeared more masculine then. Her figure looked better then though.

I used to like her character Sonia on Eastenders, but haven't really taken to the real Natalie on this show.

I'd agree with that - their nerves mut be stretched to breaking point before during and after they dance and what comes out of their mouths isn't always well considered.

I have never watched Eastenders and have not much idea of who she is but I give her full marks for putting her all into it. The dancers who really make an effort and who manage to improve over the weeks are my favourites. I really enjoy watching them and because they are struggling I learn a lot more from seeing them improve.

I watched her on Who Do You Think You Are? and she really impressed me on that.

I like Natalie. I'm pleased she's confident, smiley and wanting to win. They all do, they're just not as honest about it.

I don't think she's arrogant, nor do I think she's harbouring any delusions about how talented she is (You'll find plenty of people who think her tango deserved 7s. I can't say as I agree, but it's not a ludicrous thnig to suggest)

I do think, as a blessed "superfan", she has come into this having scripted out her entire duration on the show in her head, and she's slightly mystified that isn't turning out exactly as her fantasy version did.

Keep up!

She has also spoken out publicly about her regret over doing that DVD, as she found she was very unhappy being that thin and that it was impossible to keep to that size and weight even by eating a healthy diet and taking regular exercise.

I think that is admirable message to send to young girls and women who strive to be an unnaturally small size (the subject of Natalie and her weight has been discussed on here a lot already).

As Natalie says by focussing on winning SCD, she is only trying to imitate how the sport celebs approach things! Are they smug too or just not as interesting to criticise?

I agree with you but I saw Natalie as just thinking positively and thoroughly enjoying it all, certainly not arrogant. She's great!

Personally I don't care about personality off the dance floor, for me its all about how they perform.

Which is a good job for Natalie because as a person I have struggled to warm to her.

All I see is boundless enthusiasm and pure joy at being part of a show she loves.

Agreed. But a lot of people in this country do not like very confident people, especially women. In America I've noticed it's different. To me she is confident and ambitious, but not in an arrogant way at all!

She's just keen. That usually culminates in the occasional "foot in mouth" incident. It's something I do. I know some people probably think I'm full of myself but people like me/ Natalie(?) do know when they've overstepped the mark and do beat themselves up about it.

But if you lose that enthusiasm - well, you're either made that way or you're not. I quite like a bit of spirit in a female. Ali looks like she wouldn't say boo to a goose. That's what I find unattractive. But let's face it - we only see what the BBC shows us. Don't start thinking we get some deep insight.

Natalie has more than confidence - she's got balls!

I am yet to see an interview with her, in any medium and on any topic, in which she resorts to mouthing the usual platitudes. She tells it exactly as she sees it and doesn't worry about how people may be perceiving her remarks, because she expects them to be taken at face value.

Anybody going in for over-analysis of why she has bemoaned her low tango scores (and let's not forget, she did go first, which is always a bad spot because you're setting the standard of the evening) is going to come unstuck, because they're trying to see things that aren't there.

Natalie's been true to herself through all the flak about her weight and I doubt a few people misinterpreting her genuine disappointment as arrogance will bother her.

I feel exactly the same way about her, though it's maybe because 'Sonia' was such a loathsome creature and subconsciously I get the two confused.

*applauds*

I think I've just found my post of the day and am off to put it in the relevant thread.

Well said!

Afterall, it's not like sportspeople enter competitions with no desire to win, or actors go for auditions and couldn't care less about securing the part?

Natalie is the one being honest, and good for her.

To be honest I've not noticed any arrogance in her remarks. It does get a bit tedious when the contestants overdue all the talk about nerves and how tough it is. Its their choice to do the show.

Incredibly bratty and arrogant.
