I thought she looked good in the trousers!

God forbid the poor girl should enter a competition with the hope of winning, eh?

"In it to win it" is more than a hope.

Why enter a competition with the intention of losing? I'm sure they all want to win.

That makes no sense.

It's not like the only alternative to being "in it to win it" is intending to lose!

Why are any of them there?

They aren't busting a gut week after week for nothing.

They'd all quite like to win deep inside.

I was watching DWTS the other night and the contestants are far more competitive and very vocal about it on the American version. They would be crucified here.

Natalie is a delight. She just wants to do her the very best she can so that she gives herself a chance (even if it's a very small one) of lifting that glitter ball.

Good luck to her.

Is that supposed to mean they're all "in it to win it"? Because it doesn't.

Probably yes, they would enjoy winning if they happened to; and if they reached the final stages they might try their hardest to. That would not mean their aim from the start was to win.

The only celebs who can be aiming to win from the start are either (a) very good dancers, or (b) extremely arrogant.

Good.

Natalie is far from a delight, and wanting to do her best is very different from being in it to win it.

I'm baffled by this talk ! As defined by Collins English Dictionary, " arrogant- having or showing showing an exaggerated opinion of one's own importance or ability." Now when has Natalie done that may I ask ? She seems the opposite to me, always pointing out her nervousness / lack of co-ordination / fear of letting Vincent down, etc. but showing also how funny and pleasant she can be, and giving it all she's got. Good luck to her and lovely Vincent.

She hasn't

She's merely shown a determination to be good and do all that she can to try and win. And I admire that.

I agree Sidster, I like her. I find her ambition endearing and upfront - she wants to do well, she really loves the show, she wants to dance as well as she possibly can. At least she isn't a bit feeble and bland.

But my mother thinks she is arrogant, she said it to me after her tango when Natalie said she would have liked 8's. I saw that as being hopeful, my mum saw it as slightly deluded and unaware of true ability.

Definitely hopeful- of getting a better score herself by dancing better; not because she was put out by the judges score, thinking her performance deserved a higher mark. An 8 for the first dance would have been unlikely anyway, (although Rachel did for hers).

There's nothing wrong with wanting to do well, loving the show, or wanting to dance as well as one can. But all of those are different from being in it to win it.

Hello you

I think people (and no offence to your lovely mum here!) might have misinterpreted Natalie's comments after the Tango.

It sounded to me as if she was expecting more of herself - that she'd wanted to perform well enough to get 8's - not that she felt undermarked.

*prints out as evidence for mother*

Yes, that is what I think really. My mum has now decided she doesn't like her though, and I think other people might feel the same. Which is a shame, because I find her attitude really refreshing and quite sweet. Like the keenest bean in the class, but with vulnerability and humour.

I thought Natalie was just great on ITT tonight! Her tip about the lemon was hilarious, as was the joke about Vincent's 'eep' and 'Allo, 'Allo! What a fab partnership they make! She looked fabulous tonight as well and I wondered if they were off to a do or something!

She comes across to me as one of the most normal celebs we've ever had on SCD.

That may be the threat that makes the difference. I will big them up so she knows what she is missing.

I don't find her arrogant. She seems very grateful for the public's support, and very enthusiastic.

I agree. And she's not that good and I don't think she ever will be, but she just seems a happy soul who wants to do well.
