Alot of music from the sixties and seventies sounds fresher than a lot of stuff recorded in the eighties.
Synths and drum machines were new and overused by a lot of bands during the eighties in the post punk period. The sound that was fashionable then sounds really dated now.
Anything recorded using more traditional instruments (guitars, real drums etc) has stood the test of time better.
I'd agree wholeheartedly with that. Interestingly, many of the acts namechecked on this thread so far were heavily influenced by Roxy Music. Anyone familiar with their first five albums (1972 - 1975) will know what I mean. Of course they then went on to produce some early 80s classics of their own

I think this is one of the best synth tracks of the 80's and pretty much unknown!

actually i dont agree, i cant think of 1 of my beloved 60's tracks or 70's tracks that doesnt sound dated... not that thats a bad thing mind. i dont think synths were any more over used then the bog standard 4 man guitar group plus drums... thats still going.

i dont think that theres any difference with any style of music, the classic (often early tracks) from a new sound (guitars or synths) will stand out as classics whilst the later tracks are usually watered down versions of earlier works.

i still love 'fade to grey', 'sound of the crowd', 'the model' but find it hard to like later synth pop. in the same way i prefer earlier mid 60's guitar music to later 60's guitar music.

then why was it called 'futurist' then?...lol..
